BANGOR, Maine — A woman on Hammond Street called police last week after seeing a transient trying to break into a home across the street, apparently with a gun in his pocket, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday.
When police arrived at about 9 p.m. Aug. 3, they found Lavalle Caldwell, 44, who lists his residence as the Hope House, a homeless shelter for those struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. He did not have a gun, but police did discover Caldwell was wanted on nearly a dozen outstanding warrants.
“This person had 11 warrants for unpaid fines out of Portland, Augusta and Bangor,” Edwards said.
He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail and remained there on Tuesday afternoon, a jail official said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)

Looks like the Bangor Police just did a big favor for Millinocket, Houlton, Mars Hill, Presque Isle, Caribou and Fort Kent. He did appear to be working his way north.
No way…”Lavalle” is a transient?
Looks like a native….
please tell me what does a native look like???
If you have to ask then you probably aren’t one.
The Hope House Just keeps taking these people in at night and turning them loose in the morning. Almost every day there is an incident involving knives and guns and now they want the city council to give them more land and change the zoning in Bangor to accommodate more of these shelters all over the city. Citizens speak up and tell the council not to change the zoning and not to allow expansion.
Councilor Gallant is the only one who opposes the expansion of the hope house and needs the support of the public
Really you sure. If i am correct there are two others, including Longo
Hope House is a SHELTER not a prison.
I have been to the Hope House before in my previous job at a rent-to-own company, even had a client call us and request us to meet him there, try going to the desk at the Hope House and asking for someone there. “Even if you were a police officer with an arrest warrant for murder, I wouldn’t tell you if that person was here.” To which I countered with: “Isn’t that called aiding and abbetting? Never mind, please let so and so know I stopped by.”
I wonder where this “Bangor transient” grew up? Was it Bangor….or anywhere out of state Greyhound stops on its way to Bangor?
Naw,he dosent look like a local.Must be a flat landah…
Looks like a Bangorian to me.
Please return to us our good old beautiful l Bangor without
crime. Or the new modern and eclectic Bangor without crime. Anything will go, without crime!!! Police is overwhelmed
with crime. The first thing that MUST be done in order to now allow innocent
law abiding Maine residents be hurt by the scum that arrives here is change the
residency requirements for a SHELTER and other “benefits”. Our beautiful state
should stay beautiful and pure, and not infested with transients who mean ill. Enough
already. Enough seeing zombies wandering the streets aimlessly looking to rob
and attack the next home or person. We want to walk among decent people! We
want our serenity back! Stop welcoming bad apples to our communities!
you know, with the economy being shot now a days, you are blind if you think that way about all transit people cause that might one day be you!!!!grow up and don’t be so ignorant!!
Cry me a river!
As long as people keep making excuses for this behavior, it will continue.
I surprise he hasn’t been taken into a family setting by a compasionate liberal family.
You know what Hillary said, it takes a village.
You really should have that personality disorder looked at.
By personality disorder, do you actually mean reality?
Prove to me that you personally know just one “liberal family” that would take him in, and I’ll cede the point. Otherwise, it remains a vengeful and wrong-headed false statement. There’s your reality.
” vengeful and wrong-headed false statement.”
Oh, like telling someone they have a “personality disorder” for expressing their opinion? Seems to me like a very liberal stance you took- Oppress and blame! Strike down on all who don’t abide by your standards!
Pleeeease! I’m headed to Chik-fil-a.
Just don’t care for blanket accusations, especially those with no basis in fact, and irrelevant to the story, unless veiled racism is acceptable, which it might be, to you. However, sophomoric behavior is in vogue these days, so blast away. Don’t choke on the chicken.
Oh, now you are implying racism? Wow you really ARE a dedicated liberal! No one said anything about race, but somehow you managed to interject it into the conversation! Talk about “blanket accusations, especially those with no basis in fact”! It seems you have managed to contradict yourself in every post you have made to me! That’s about right though- I mean, that’s the basis of your entire political party!
I repeat, “sophomoric behavior is in vogue these days, so blast away.” Thank you for the demonstration.
Oh. So I use your own words to make you look ridiculous, and I am “sophomoric”. LOL! You are so vain!
Feel better now? How in the H-E-double L do you profess to know my political affiliation? Because I abhor blanket accusations, such as the original poster made? I guess I see how that could paint me as one of your hated libs, caring about people and all. (By the way, how did you get so wrapped up in this? Hit a nerve, did I?) Let me guess, you’ve got little else to do but watch the “news”, rummage through online papers, and fight your good fight all day. Any time you want to engage in a real session, look me up on a weekend, when I’m not in the middle of my 12 hour workday (12 by choice, btw, because my clients deserve great service), I’ll be better suited to go head to head with you, as I can give you my full concentration, rather than dart in and out between rush times.
How do I know your affiliation? The first, second, and third clue were your reactions and rhetoric. I’m sorry, I work 50 plus hours a week, but I chose a career that involves sitting in my office designing software programs for the one of the largest occ health care providers in the country, which apparently was a better choice then yours if you’re unable to use modern technology while you work. Yes my clients, Google being one of them, also get outstanding service, but I rarely feel rushed or hurried in my position. If you were attempting to patronize me, needless to say, it didn’t work very well. I commend you for your 12 hour work days. Hard work goes unrecognized these days. You seem to be the one getting all uptight here, so I guess if you wanna go “head to head” then sure. I am just simply replying to posts. Hit a nerve? No, I’m sorry but I do not get stressed out over some crumby newspaper’s forum. But, if I were to get stressed at any time, I would kick my feet up on my desk, put in some headphones, and relax for an hour or so. Carry on hard worker! Carry on!
Haha, fair enough….good comeback. Place, meet Put. Touche. I love my work, been doing it for 17 years now, and have an extremely loyal and honorable clientele. Very hectic, in spurts, but exhilarating simultaneously. I was lucky enough to begin working from home 11 years ago, and never looked back, even retaining my at home berth between 3 recent job changes. Sign of the times, I suppose. Have a good evening.
I have the option to work from home, but its too hard for me to focus (go figure), so I don’t do it usually. Glad you are successful up there. I had to move 1500 miles to find a job doing what I do. Can’t complain I guess… especially when its snowing back home, and 85 degrees and sunny here! :) Had fun bantering with you. I love a good, charged up, intellegent conversation. Ya, its been real. Until the next time partner! Have a good night.
Hahahaha! Thats a riot!
Can Someone tell me What a
transient is? From What I have been told so far is that Other States are sending them (
transients ) to Maine with a one way bus Ticket.
