HERMON, Maine — An Orrington man was arrested last weekend after police found bath salts residue and prescription drugs in his pickup truck, a Penobscot County sheriff’s deputy said this week.
Shawn Mayo, 40, had just been discharged from Eastern Maine Medical Center and was being dropped off at Dysart’s by Bangor police Officer Jason Stuart when Stuart became concerned about Mayo’s suspicious behavior and asked Deputy Steve Saucier to meet him at the truckstop and restaurant, Saucier said Friday.
When they arrived at Dysart’s, however, Mayo — who was still wearing a hospital johnny and very little else — allegedly became evasive about the location of his truck.
The officers, however, found it anyway.
As Mayo was subject to police searches as a condition of his bail from a July 4 arrest in Old Town on drunk driving and drug possession charges, Saucier looked through his vehicle.
The search turned up pieces of tin foil with residue that tested positive for the presence of a component of the designer drug known as bath salts as well as a generic form of the scheduled drug Ritalin, for which Mayo did not have a prescription, Saucier said.
Mayo was charged with illegal possession of a schedule drug, illegal possession of a synthetic hallucinogen and with violating his bail conditions. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail.

Tin foil, also spelled tinfoil, is a thin foil made of tin. Actual tin foil was superseded by cheaper and more durable aluminium foil after World War II.
