THORNDIKE, Maine — A woman accused of stealing a box of checks from an ex-boyfriend and using them to take $2,500 worth of money and goods from Waldo County mom-and-pop stores was arrested this weekend by police.
Roxanne Conroy, 23, of Thorndike was charged Saturday on a warrant for theft issued by the Maine State Police, which investigated the incident along with the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
Conroy is believed to have taken her ex-boyfriend’s checks and forged his name to purchase goods at convenience stores around the county over the last couple of weeks, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.
She would write checks for more than the purchase amount and pocket the rest of the money, Trafton said.
“If she was successful with the morning clerk, she waited for the shift change and tried again,” he said.
Police also issued a summons to Conroy for operating after suspension, he said.
She was taken to Waldo County Jail to be booked and then was transferred to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.
don’t these store owners teach clerks to ask for identification? Should fire the bunch and start over.

well writing bad checks is a sign of a sickness. bipolar depression drug use to support her habbit. writing bad checks is a addiction. like drinking booze. they should be getting her help. this is bad financial times people get desperate. i guess writing bad checks is a milder form of burglary. it is better then robbing a bank with a gun. it is a addction . dont know if she has ever been in jail but if she hasnt it is a eye opener. writing bad checks ruins ones reputation credit rating it stays with you . it is like a addiction. she should never have a checking account like booze is to a alcholic. once she gets through the legal process. it is a bad addiction to have they should have support groups for people with this issue

I dont think that she was doing this because she is addicted to writing bad checks I am assuming her and her boyfriend left on bad terms and she had his checkbook and she thought it as payback to him. LOL I dont know for sure but that was my first thought! But now she has to pay a higher price because she wasnt sly enough to not get cought!

It is no wonder that all of my local Mom and Pop stores will no longer allow people to use paper checks for gas, milk, newspapers etc. I certainly can’t blame them.
looking at this picture of this woman, makes me think she is the kind that does not have a job, dependent on someone to take care of her, if only there was a business that would employ these people, make them show up everyday, no excuses, see what the people do that provide a life for these losers. Maybe a few would try to improve their lives.

It’s the stores fault to allow this to happen. If you are not the person cashing the check and in this case a woman vs man, then you can not cash the check. I say make her pay the full penalty of the law and tell her to get a job! This is very common for store to allow this.
It’s amazing seeing people you went to high school with and bullied people go to jail. : ) Enjoy jail.
