LEWISTON, Maine — A man was injured in downtown Lewiston on Monday afternoon when a motorist began to drive away as the man attempted to enter her car, causing him to drag along the ground, according to witnesses.

A woman walking her son home from school around 2:30 p.m. said the man was a passenger getting into a car outside the nearby Community Credit Union on Pine Street.

The driver stepped on the gas and sped off before the man got into the car. The man was briefly hooked to the car as the woman drove off, sending the man crashing down onto the pavement.

The witness said the man and the female driver were seen driving through the credit union’s ATM before the man went inside the bank.

The woman driver did not stop as people rushed over to the injured man.
