PLEASANT RIDGE PLANTATION, Maine — Maine State Police on Thursday were searching Pleasant Ridge Plantation in Somerset County for the second straight day.
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland would not provide any clues as to why police were in the area.
“I’m not going to say what case it involves or what we’re looking for,” said McCausland on Thursday afternoon. “It’s the second day in the area searching the heavily wooded area. Half-a-dozen people are there with state police conducting the search.”
McCausland did rule out one case that the search could be about.
“It has nothing to do with Ayla Reynolds,” he said Thursday evening, but provided no other update.
Ayla was 20 months old when she was reported missing from her father’s home in Waterville on Dec. 17, 2011. Police conducted numerous searches but have yet to find the toddler.
How long police will be in the area or whether they will return after Thursday was something McCausland said he didn’t know.
“They will reassess at the end of the day where we go from here,” he said.
I’m guessing possibly the Ayla Reynolds case?

I was told, could just be rumor though, that it is about a cold case that involves a man with stage 4 cancer and wants to clear his conscience before he dies and told police that he dumped a body in the woods 35 years ago. I highly doubt it has anything to do with the Ayla Reynolds case.

It appears that the police have a job to do, and they should be able to do it without having to deal with speculation and interference. The people have a right to know, but not everything and not immediately. The information is clearly on a “need to know” basis, and the truth is that we want to know, but we do not necessarily need to know.
