BANGOR, Maine — An Oakland woman was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court to 30 days in jail for stealing about $6,500 while working at the post office in Augusta.
Jill E. Hansen, 44, also was sentenced to three years of supervised release.
In addition to jail time, U.S. District Judge John Woodcock ordered Hansen to pay a $500 fine and $6,500 in restitution.
Hansen waived indictment and pleaded guilty to theft of postal funds in May.
She was ordered to begin serving her sentence on Dec. 7. Hansen has been free on $5,000 unsecured bail since entering her guilty plea.
By pleading guilty, Hansen admitted to stealing from the Augusta post office, where she worked part time, between March 2010 and April 2011. Hansen entered no sale transactions, voided sales of purchases made by customers and incorrectly reported sales in order to steal postal service funds, according to the prosecution version of events to which she pleaded guilty. Surveillance cameras captured Hansen removing postal funds from her case drawer and placing the money under her shirt.
Hansen faced up to 10 years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
Times sure have changed. This happened a few years back in Sangerville and all that happened was the woman lost her job and now she acts like a pillar of the community.
Wow, only 30 days?? Something is very wrong with our Justice System, Don’t forget the postal worker In Houlton who was caught stealing prescription medications from the VA and he only got 30 days too…………………I want a job at the post office!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought it was a fed charge also.but 30 days really.this lady should have gotten 10 years in prison.
