PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — City Council candidates in Presque Isle will meet Wednesday night for a candidates forum to discuss issues pertinent to the community before Election Day.

The forum, hosted by the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce, will take place 7-9 p.m. at City Hall.

Four candidates — Dick Engels, Don Gardner, Jacqueline Goodine and Craig Green — are vying for two open seats on the council. Dick Engels is an incumbent and Gardner has served on the council in the past.

During a meeting last week, the council accepted the resignation of Jessica Chase-Smith, who was elected last November. Chase-Smith said the move was necessary because of her husband’s career change and job relocation.

Councilors decided not to replace her right away, as her term is up at the end of the year anyway.

  1. Please don’t compound the Engels mistake.  His time on the council has been divisive and he looks down on the average man.
