AUGUSTA, Maine — Independent U.S. Senate candidate Angus King slightly outraised Republican rival Charlie Summers during the latest two-and-a-half week fundraising period, according to their campaigns.
King raised $387,000 between Oct. 1 and 17, which includes the money his campaign raised last week at a fundraiser hosted by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg at his Manhattan home.
Summers raised $325,000 during the same period.
While Summers is starting to narrow the fundraising gap between himself and King as the Nov. 6 election approaches, King has raised more than twice what his Republican rival has.
King’s total fundraising now stands at nearly $2.5 million since the former governor entered the Senate race in March. Summers, Maine’s Secretary of State, has raised almost $1.1 million since the start of his candidacy.
Together, their fundraising figure is a fraction of the more than $5.7 million outside groups have spent on advertising and direct mail to influence the race.

VOTE KING
If King keeps on raising money at this rate, he will have that new ride from “The Scooter Store” just in time to ride it around DC.
Reminds me of the old ski club method of picking the carnival queen: the candidate selling the most carnival tickets won the title. It had nothing to do with anything but money. Carnival kings, carnival queens – that’s what they want to be, these wannabe statesmen.
It seems there have been far more articles concerning Mr. King’s fund raising triumphs than about his ability to take part in leading our nation.
The real “triumph” will be King winning despite over 4 million dollars spent on attack ads against him.
If King is really a liberal Democrat, we should total up the King votes and the Dill votes to find how many liberals there are in Maine.
Conservatives can then take comfort in their 38% fluke governor for two more years and look to a liberal Maine future whenever majotity rules.
A few clever, well not really, jibes at Mr. King.
But even the partisans who support Summers can’t think of anything good to say about him.
C’mon folks, go to his website and cut and paste his lies, I mean talking points.
Go threaten a student or a poor person with incarceration for “illegal” voting, to see if you can intimidate them.
Live the Summers’ dream.
