BANGOR, Maine — All after-school activities in the Bangor school system have been canceled for Tuesday due to inclement weather associated with Hurricane Sandy.

Alan Kochis, director of business in the superintendent’s office, confirmed that no after school activities are planned for Tuesday.

“We announced to students and staff [Monday] that we’d be doing this,” Kochis said.

Kochis also said chances are high that Wednesday’s regional soccer final featuring Bangor and Hampden Academy will be played on Husson University’s artificial turf field.

  1. If the weather is good enough to send a 5 year old to school today ….how is it that a 17 year old can’t safely go to a sports practice and get back home?

    1. It was a good call. School is a priority, as it should be. Afterschool recreational activities are not a priority. It was raining so hard on my drive home this aftternoon, I couldn’t see 2 ft. in front of me. It was scary. I wouldn’t have wanted my kids (17 or 5) on the roads for recreational activities.

      1. It was a crazy day. At 2:30 there were bolts of lightening around. Perhaps the whole day should have been scrapped. You are right in  that the afternoon was no time to be outdoors.

    2.  Somebody needs to win an award for the amount of drama and overkill that the Greater Bangor area dedicated to this non-event.

  2. Most of the sports teams are done for the season.  After school actvities are limited right now to Student Council, debate team, ect, ect.  Yes, lets keep them from being involved after school beacause its a little windy and raining.  Because thats not a typical day in Maine or anything.
