President Barack Obama won re-election Tuesday night despite a fierce challenge from Republican Mitt Romney, prevailing in the face of a weak economy and high unemployment that encumbered his first term and crimped the middle class dreams of millions.
“This happened because of you. Thank you” Obama tweeted to supporters as he secured four more years in the White House.
The president sealed his victory in Ohio, Iowa, New Hampshire and Colorado, four of the nine battleground states where the two rivals and their allies spent nearly $1 billion on dueling television commercials.
Ultimately, the result of the brawl of an election campaign appeared likely to be the political status quo. Democrats won two more years of control of the Senate, and Republicans were on track to do likewise in the House.
Romney was in Massachusetts, his long and grueling bid for the presidency at an unsuccessful end.
The two rivals were close in the popular vote.
Romney had 45.2 million votes, or 49 percent. Obama had 45 million, also 49 percent, with 65 percent of precincts tallied.
But Obama’s laser-like focus on battleground states gave him the majority in the electoral vote, where it mattered most. He had 284, or 14 more than needed for victory. Romney had 200.
Yet to be settled were battlegrounds in Florida, Virginia and Nevada.
The election emerged as a choice between two very different visions of government — whether it occupies a major, front-row place in American lives or is in the background as a less-obtrusive facilitator for private enterprise and entrepreneurship.
The economy was rated the top issue by about 60 percent of voters surveyed as they left their polling places. But more said former President George W. Bush bore responsibility for current circumstances than Obama did after nearly four years in office.
About 4 in 10 said the economy is on the mend, but more than that said it was stagnant or getting worse more than four years after the near-collapse of 2008. The survey was conducted for The Associated Press and a group of television networks.
Democrats got off to a quick start in their bid to renew their Senate majority, capturing seats in Indiana and Massachusetts now in Republican hands.
In Maine, independent former Gov. Angus King was elected to succeed retiring GOP Sen. Olympia Snowe. He has not yet said which party he will side with, but Republicans attacked him in television advertising during the race, and Democrats rushed to his cause.
Polls were still open in much of the country as the two rivals began claiming the spoils of a brawl of an election in a year in which the struggling economy put a crimp in the middle class dreams of millions.
The president was in Chicago as he awaited the voters’ verdict on his four years in office. He told reporters he had a concession speech as well as victory remarks prepared. He congratulated Romney on a spirited campaign. “I know his supporters are just as engaged, just as enthusiastic and working just as hard today” as Obama’s own, he added.
Romney reciprocated, congratulating the man who he had campaigned against for more than a year.
Earlier, he raced to Ohio and Pennsylvania for Election Day campaigning and projected confidence as he flew home to Massachusetts. “We fought to the very end, and I think that’s why we’ll be successful,” he said, adding that he had finished writing a speech anticipating victory but nothing if the election went to his rival.
But the mood soured among the Republican high command as the votes came in and Obama ground out a lead in critical states.
Like Obama, Vice President Joe Biden was in Chicago as he waited to find out if he was in line for a second term. Republican running mate Paul Ryan was with Romney in Boston, although he kept one eye on his re-election campaign for a House seat in Wisconsin, just in case.
Voters also chose a new Congress to serve alongside the man who will be inaugurated president in January, Democrats defending their majority in the Senate, and Republicans in the House.
The long campaign’s cost soared into the billions, much of it spent on negative ads, some harshly so.
In the presidential race, an estimated one million commercials aired in nine battleground states where the rival camps agreed the election was most likely to be settled — Ohio, New Hampshire, Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Wisconsin, Iowa, Colorado and Nevada.
In a months-long general election ad war that cost nearly $1 billion, Romney and Republican groups spent more than $550 million and Obama and his allies $381 million, according to organizations that track advertising.
In Virginia, the polls had been closed for several minutes when Obama’s campaign texted a call for volunteers “to make sure everyone who’s still in line gets to vote.”
In Florida, there were long lines at the hour set for polls to close. Under state law, everyone waiting was entitled to cast a ballot.
According to the exit poll, 53 percent of voters said Obama is more in touch with people like them, compared to 43 percent for Romney.
About 60 percent said taxes should be increased, taking sides on an issue that divided the president and Romney. Obama wants to let taxes rise on upper incomes, while Romney does not.
Other than the battlegrounds, big states were virtually ignored in the final months of the campaign. Romney wrote off New York, Illinois and California, while Obama made no attempt to carry Texas, much of the South or the Rocky Mountain region other than Colorado.
There were 33 Senate seats on the ballot, 23 of them defended by Democrats and the rest by Republicans.
Democratic Rep. Chris Murphy, a Democrat, won a Connecticut seat long held by Sen. Joe Lieberman, retiring after a career that included a vice presidential spot on Al Gore’s ticket in 2000. It was Republican Linda McMahon’s second defeat in two tries, at a personal cost of $92 million.
The GOP needed a gain of three for a majority if Romney won, and four if Obama was re-elected. Neither Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada nor GOP leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky was on the ballot, but each had high stakes in the outcome.
All 435 House seats were on the ballot, including five where one lawmaker ran against another as a result of once-a-decade redistricting to take population shifts into account. Democrats needed to pick up 25 seats to gain the majority they lost two years ago.
Depending on the outcome of a few races, it was possible that white men would wind up in a minority in the Democratic caucus for the first time.
Speaker John A. Boehner, R-Ohio, raised millions to finance get-out-the-vote operations in states without a robust presidential campaign, New York, Illinois and California among them. His goal was to minimize any losses, or possibly even gain ground, no matter Romney’s fate. House Democratic leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi of California campaigned aggressively, as well, and faced an uncertain political future if her party failed to win control.
In gubernatorial races, Republicans picked up North Carolina, where Pat McCrory won easily. The incumbent, Democratic Gov. Bev Purdue, did not seek re-election.
In a campaign that traversed contested Republican primaries last winter and spring, a pair of political conventions this summer and three presidential debates, Obama, Romney, Biden and Ryan spoke at hundreds of rallies, were serenaded by Bruce Springstein and Meat Loaf and washed down hamburgers, pizza, barbecue and burrito bowls.
Obama was elected the first black president in 2008, and four years later, Romney became the first Mormon to appear on a general election ballot. Yet one man’s race and the other’s religion were never major factors in this year’s campaign for the White House, a race dominated from the outset by the economy.
Over and over, Obama said that during his term the nation has begun to recover from the worst recession since the Great Depression. While he conceded progress has been slow, he accused Romney of offering recycled Republican policies that have helped the wealthy and harmed the middle class in the past and would do so again.
Romney countered that a second Obama term could mean a repeat recession in a country where economic growth has been weak and unemployment is worse now than when the president was inaugurated. A wealthy former businessman, he claimed the knowledge and the skills to put in place policies that would make the economy healthy again.
In a race where the two men disagreed often, one of the principal fault lines was over taxes. Obama campaigned for the renewal of income tax cuts set to expire on Dec. 31 at all income levels except above $200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for couples.
Romney said no one’s taxes should go up in uncertain economic times. In addition, he proposed a 20 percent cut across the board in income tax rates but said he would end or curtail a variety of tax breaks to make sure federal deficits didn’t rise.
The differences over taxes, the economy, Medicare, abortion and more were expressed in intensely negative advertising.
Obama launched first, shortly after Romney dispatched his Republican foes in his quest for the party nomination.
One memorable commercial showed Romney singing an off-key rendition of “America The Beautiful.” Pictures and signs scrolled by saying that his companies had shipped jobs to Mexico and China, that Massachusetts state jobs had gone to India while he was governor and that he has personal investments in Switzerland, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands.
Romney spent less on advertising than Obama. A collection of outside groups made up the difference, some of them operating under rules that allowed donors to remain anonymous. Most of the ads were of the attack variety. But the Republican National Committee relied on one that had a far softer touch, and seemed aimed at voters who had been drawn to the excitement caused by Obama’s first campaign. It referred to a growing national debt and unemployment, then said, “He tried. You tried. It’s OK to make a change.”
More than 30 million voters cast early ballots in nearly three dozen states, a reflection of the growing appeal of getting a jump on the traditional Election Day.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! How frightening to think that Romney (bag of wind) could have been elected, almost as scary as when Al Gore ran!!!
So has FOX so yes, Obama has won and I’m doing my happy dance. Now I just need same sex marriage to pass to complete my trifecta.
Edit: AP has now reported same sex marriage will pass in Maine, which is awesome. I might have a weeding to attended in the near future.
And Elizabeth Warren won the Senate seat in MA. We ALL won with that decision.
I cannot even imagine how upset Howie Carr is right now.
Howie Carr is laughing all the way to the bank.
People disliking politicians is what he makes his money on. He’ll be upset, then question how it’s possible that voters overlooked so many of her questionable character issues, then he’ll remember he’s in just about the bluest state in the country, and then he’ll start gathering fodder to do his shows on for whatever the length of time it is she holds that office.
You’re right. Limbaugh will be crying today too while he secretly counts the stash. No, not the illegal drugs but his salary. Perhaps after this election loss he won’t get paid as well to rouse the GOP trash.
He has made so much money by this time, that he could do his show for free for the rest of the decade, and it wouldn’t matter to him. He’s in there until they pry the mic from his cold dead fingers.
We can only hope he gets a terminal case of severe laryngitis which, magically, is incurable before then. I have called him Trash Slimebaugh for years and it fits.
Exactly. Howie wins either way. He’ll entertain the gumpies no matter what.
I’m actually going to listen to Rush today. This ought to be quite humorous! There is no joy InRushville, Mighty Mitt has been struck out by the people!(and more than 47% of them too!)
Rush will blame Romney for not being conservative enough, and Obama for hypnotizing the rest of us. There will be no soul searching, or crying, but there may be rending of garments and gnashing of teeth, as usual.
I wonder if former state senator Carol Weston, Gov. LePage, and the Americans for Prosperity are feeling ripped off after Carr gave his motivational speech at the new FOFK facility, formerly known as Fort Knox.
The woman who lied about her race to get into college is now in the Senate? wow. I guess since that is the standard now I should just do the same so I can get ahead in life, since following the rules hasn’t gotten me anywhere.
You need to do some research in what Warren said. She did not lie.
Hm that’s interesting. Here’s some of my research.
“The New England Historic Genealogical Society found a family newsletter that alluded to a marriage-license application supposedly listing Warren’s great-great-great grandmother as part Cherokee.”
and also:
“Warren has claimed Cherokee and Delaware Indian heritage, but the only proof so far seems to be stories she says she heard from family members as a child. Cherokee groups have demanded documentation of the candidate’s Native American ancestry, but she hasn’t delivered.”
I guess if this is the case. I’m Native American too! I think I remember someone in the family mentioning that my grandmother was a quarter Passamaquoddy, so I guess I can now claim myself as a minority. Here is the link to the article I am referring to- http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/fact-checker/post/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-controversy-over-elizabeth-warrens-claimed-native-american-heritage/2012/09/27/d0b7f568-08a5-11e2-a10c-fa5a255a9258_blog.html
So what!!!!! How many people do actual research? We tend to believe what our families tell us about our heritage. That’s all Brown had? Guess he didn’t have enough credits to have to stoop so low about ancestry.
I hope you at least have a job. Same sex marriage? I couldn’t care less. If you don’t have a job, your welcome. I will go to work tomorrow.
I have a very secure job.
Astonishing. Obama wins by a huge margin, yet some Republicans keep pushing this nonsense to the effect that only people on welfare vote for him.
The 47% of Americans whom Romney despises (because their income is so low they don’t pay income tax) includes homeless veterans, elders living on Social Security, people laid off by Romney’s Bain Corp, and my disabled adult daughter.
Some of the 47% actually voted Republican; whether or not they realize Romney’s policies would have demolished what little safety net they have–that’s open to doubt.
I myself (FYI) work 45-50 hours per week at a well-paying job. The taxes that I and my military retiree husband pay are going partly to funding the social safety net that will help YOU and your family one day, if you have a terrible injury or illness, or if you or your child give birth to a disabled baby. I’m happy about that. It’s what being an American is all about.
Lets all hope you have a job in 4 years.
I’m hoping to retire by then (I’m 65). And I’m delighted that I won’t have to be studying fine print on some voucher system when I’m 90. I believe Social Security and Medicare have a far better chance of surviving intact under President Obama than under corporate rule with R&R as titular leaders.
The economy is recovering slowly, but it is recovering. Romney would have sent us back into recession. So yes, we are better off with the President’s slow recovery than we would be with another Republican recession.
And you really belive Romney was going to create 12 million jobs? HAHAHAA! Where? In China? HAHAHA!
Obama did not win by a “large margin”.
Nice to know you realize you can’t dispute any of my other statements :)
Not enough time in the day.
He won the Electoral College — the only place that counts — by a large margin (303 to 206). Obama is also leading in Florida, which may add to his Electoral College victory total.
Yes, the popular vote was close. But as the Republicans keep telling us, it is the Electoral College, and not the popular vote, that elects the president. So LizDavies is absolutely correct.
You are correct. He won where it counts…. with fewer Electoral votes than last time. The first time that has happened post ww2. The popular vote counts in that he has no mandate from the people. He will still be ineffectual and from day one becomes a lame duck. He will be unable except by Presidential fiat, to accomplish any of his goals. (If we knew what they were.)
Not with the way the Senate changed. And happy days in Augusta too!
In this issue. The Senate is irrelevant. The Democrats have taken 5 or fewer seats. They needed 25. That Gives Congress the Power. On the bright side Pelosi most likely will resign.
You contrast “the Senate” with “Congress,” but the Senate is half of Congress. The other half is the House of Representatives.
Of course “that gives Congress [which is made up of the Senate and House of Representatives] the power” to legislate.
That’s always been true since the Constitution was adopted.
Give Obama 29 more electoral votes for winning Florida, making it 332 to 206. We agree that he won where it counts.
Neither Obama nor the Republicans have much of a mandate (you and I might actually be able to agree on that). So what should the two sides do?
* They need to work together to get past the big budget sequestering crisis that is looming, cutting spending and raising some revenues. This will require some actual cooperation and compromise.
* Congress should confirm any appointments that they have been delaying.
* It’s time for Congress to pass the DREAM Act — that might actually help the Republicans with part of their image problem.
* There probably shouldn’t be many big new domestic policy initiatives. The president has already passed his big items (the Affordable Care Act, Wall Street reform, credit card reform, the rescue of Chrystler and GM, the Lilly Leadbetter Equal Pay Act, the stimulus bill, etc.) and Obama probably shouldn’t try for more big items like those.
* We need to be bipartisan in our support of our nation’s foreign policy.
* We all need to step back and breathe. Rejoice that, for a few months, we won’t see or hear any more negative political ads.
* And all Americans would be better off if Rush Limbaugh decided to take his money and retire quietly to the Cayman Islands.
and yet he is still…. “Mr. President”…
3 to 2, in the electoral college. That’s a pretty sizable margin…
An unemotional examination of the election results would show a much different fact.
Fewer electoral votes and fewer popular votes (I think) and a strong Republican majority in Congress point to a weak Presidency. If Obama wants anything he is gonna be Boehners metaphorical boy toy in order to get it.
No, not “a strong Republican majority in Congress.” A strong Republican majority in one house of Congress, the House of Representatives. And a strengthened Democratic majority in the other house of Congress, the Senate.
And yes, the president did very well in the electoral college, and the popular vote was very close, and nobody in the White House, the House of Representatives, or the Senate, has a lot to crow about.
The president has a job to do, but not a big mandate. Both houses of Congress are about as unpopular as the Bubonic Plague. They need to work together.
wishful thinking ….
I think the “boy toy” will be the other way around and your crybaby Bo”h”ner will be the one doing the bendover shuffle. LOL! Look we all know most Republicans are just to scared to come out of the closet. “Come out come out wherever you are” is a song from the Wizard of Oz.
The popular vote wasn’t that close for a PResidential election and the only reason it was as close as it was is the fact that the CSA states votes 60% for Romney. Obama won bif in teh rest of teh country.
Without seeing the final vote. I am willing to bet he won the popular vote by fewer votes as well as Electoral votes. We will see when all the votes are tallied.
Could be true.
Yet he won. And he will be president again.
Neither the Republicans in the House of Representatives, nor the Democrats in the Senate, nor the president, has a huge mandate. It’s time they worked together at least once in a while.
See my answer above regarding some of the things they need to do.
Let’s see: Obama drew the votes of most liberals and moderates, women, Hispanics, African Americans and younger voters. Who was missing other than wealthier old cranky white folks, just plain out-of-sorts white folks, religious extremists, not a few racists and reactionaries? Most of those will find a way to get on with their lives; some will never adapt.Happily for the rest of us, none of the latter are a growing demographic element – not for the time being anyway.
:) !
Chew on that another four years Mitch McConnell.
Welcome to another fours years of ineptitude gridlock and a poor economy. We have become a nation of takers not contributors. Chances are good the entitlement economy will become so entrenched that we may never escape.
President Kennedy would not be welcome in today’s Democratic Party.
What place would a man have in the Democratic party that said these words. (stolen from a commentator)
“Ask not what your country can do for you, Ask what you can do for your country.” ~~~JFK
Today we have half the people who won the election asking the government to solve all their ills and provide all their comforts, Make all their decisions.
The question a Democrat asks today is “What can I do for you with taxpayers dollars to assure you vote for me?”
Most of the posters here won’t understand the difference and that my friends is our problem.
How far have we fallen.
You keep saying that, because President Kennedy lowered taxes (just as Obama also did) that he would not be welcome in today’s Democratic Party. Both Obama and Kennedy lowered taxes, so your attempt to contrast the two of them is nonsense. Can’t you come up with something better than just repeating the same old nonsense time and time again?
It makes more sense to say that Ronald Reagan, who raised taxes several times, wouldn’t be welcome in today’s Republican Party.
Except I said nothing here about taxes and as I predicted above you missed the point.
I think you are the one who is actually ‘missing the point’.
True — in the past you cited taxes as the reason Kennedy wouldn’t be welcome. Having lost that argument, this time you cited nothing at all. You just keep repeating meaningless nonsense.
Penzance et al, one thing I notice is when you are faced with a valid response, you sidestep and say ‘You missed my point’ Get better at articulating then because you look stupid trying to use a 5 year old child’s response…”No you’re wrong, I’m right”
I think the point was made at the polls yesterday ../.
Even before the moving vans were unloaded on the day that President Obama was moving into the white house, the republican house was scheming on making sure that President Obama was only a one term president. Hows that working for them now.
What can I do for you with taxpayers dollars to assure you vote for me? I’m sorry but you did mention taxes. Unless you think taxpayer dollars is fairy dust. And your point is old news. Move on.
If you believe that Obama has lowered taxes, just wait until Jan. 1, 2013 when the higher taxes for ObamaCare start to kick in. If you are on Meduicare your benefits will be lower & your payments will double over thge next two years. Obama kept his tax hikes hidden until after the election. Some of the tax hikes for his ObamaCare got to pay for illegals & Muslims, who are exempt from ObamaCare. read through the thousands of pages & find these for yourself.
he also hid his energy ajenda you no no more energy at home we have to by from those that want to kill us how do people get brainwashed by the media bunch of fools will see when it to late.
Joe, you really need to educate yourself before it’s too late. Your spelling and poor grammar almost make me wonder if English is even your native language. If not, then I’ll excuse you. If it is, then you need to step away from whatever group is feeding you this nonsense. Step back and take a long, hard look at your cult/church/pastor/tea party-whatever group it is-clear your mind and start over.
get ready to pay up obama said more in store haha you will all be sorry to late now
More of the sheep jumped in pen D than pen R, that’s all. Not much suspense here. They were only given two pens to choose from in the first place. We were doomed either way. Both major parties are bought and paid for to begin with. The Republicans advocate for the rich. The Democrats advocate for the poor. The rest of us are left to our own devices.
The difference being there are more poor than rich that voted. Welcome to democracy.
At the rate that we are sending our jobs to China, we will all be poor by 2016. The Republicans might as well go down to the Cayman Islands and roll around naked in their money instead of mounting a campaign for the presidency the next time around. I guess their plan to get everyone working for “public assistance” wages has back fired on them.
We can only hope the Mayans are on schedule. December 22. :)
LOL. Funniest comment of the day, so far Cheesecake!
Republicans are against women’s reproductive freedom, against gay marriage, insensitive to what Americans want on immigration issues, and on and on. It’s not just about who cuts taxes more.
However, Obama broke the back of the resistance to a Canadian-style healthcare system for all Americans. Obamacare may not be perfect, but it gives tens of millions of people hope that soon they will be able to afford to see a doctor for basic check ups and routine care.
Republicans are fixed on obstructionism, on saying no and forming a solid stubborn red wall of ideological bricks. WhDemocrats are learning from the rest of the world and adapting to the needs of the future.
The voters sent a message yesterday and even Fox News is saying, ‘We need to learn from this.’
Well Spruce, I am for universal health, but against abortions of convenience. I am for a sensible immigration policy, but against gay marriage. I am in favor of a smaller military, but against “free” trade. I would also be in favor of a personal wealth cap of $1 billion dollars, but against more government regulation in general. Obviously, I had no one to vote for, only ones to vote against. The old lessor of two evils argument. I am just glad the circus is over for a while.
So basically you want to stick your nose in people’s personal business.
Funny how what I see as taking a stand against immorality, you see as sticking my nose in other people’s business. Yet, some how I still manage to sleep just fine at night. Go figure.
Perhaps this is the source of the problem for conservative republicans. The world IS NOT the same as it was in the 1960’s, 1970’s or even yesterday for that matter. Our world is in constant change. Many of us do not like changes in our lives …. but IT IS inevitable. Isn’t it time for ALL of us to be enlightened to this obvious fact.
In the words of a bumbling TV character. “I don’t mind change. I just don’t want to be there when it happens.” :)
Seriously, Things have changed. Absolutely true. I think that is what I said and things are not changing for the better.
My Grandmother used to say that “opinions are like buttholes …. everyone has one”. Perhaps the majority of the folks in our great country feel as though Obama has made the country a better place than it was when he walked into the mess that he inherited. Perhaps most Americans are able to recall how bad this country was bleeding. Obama HAS been able to stop the bleeding. It will just take more time for the USA to recover from the wounds inflicted upon us by the previous administration. Just my opinion … as well as the opinions expressed by the majority of the country.
Obviously your grandmother was correct. Obama has made America better for the dependent class…. but that’s about all.
We as a nation are ALL dependent on one another….. I think that the Gov. of Jersey will agree. We as a world are ALL dependent on each other….. Times have changed! …. The world is much smaller than it used to be.
I see so… it is OK that half the country is financially dependent on the other half in some manner. Under Obama that percentage can only grow. Which means fewer and fewer people are caring for more and more of us. How long do you really think that is going to last?
Ask every other democratic country in the world. They all provide affordable healthcare to all citizens. Ask Forbes Magazine, which said that the happiest countries in the world all have strong welfare nets and large redistribution of wealth. Or maybe just go to Canada, and see how they are happier, healthier, and have a booming economy. Or maybe just look at the US military, a socialist system through and through. And on and on…
Republicans can’t keep spewing the same old canards. It isn’t working, not with the younger generations, who voted in majority for Obama.
Your bitterness, fear and continual accusation are a losing strategy. I’m off to celebrate!
Bye.
Oh I understand that when you reach a certain threshold of dependence there is no turning back. That was one of my points.
Go celebrate. Our children will pay the price of your party.
Perhaps you were not able to comprehend my point …. that being we are ALL dependent on each in one way or another. Do you REALLY believe that half the country is unemployed?
N0, But almost half the population is receiving some sort of government aide.
Many of those people are retired and disabled. That includes veterans. But you know that.
You also know that these dependent folks are not the core of the problem.
Perhaps we are ALL receiving some sort of government aid. Like roads being plowed when they need to be…. Children being allowed to go to public schools to get educated …. Police departments protecting us …. our armed forces protecting our freedoms and on and on and on. God bless you brother or sister.
You really need to stop replaying that video of Romney. The 47% lie has been proven wrong.
Correction: All of the population receives some sort of government aid.
The Midwest ‘rust belt’ went Dem, since they have joined the East and West coasts as subsidy states; meanwhile the economic heart of America in the South went Rep. and conservative. People on the dole voted for Obama.
Then there are the politics of Racism and Sexism. It is not a coincidence that in all Black precincts in Ohio and Ill. 100% of the people voted DEM. We are racially divided and this election proves it.
Many are retired living on the social security THEY earned. Some are disabled veterans depending on the medical benefits THEY fought for. Many are working poor who do not earn enough to pay taxes. Of course there are those millionaires and multinational companies who have gamed the tax laws specifically to avoid taxes. They get tax breaks while paying their executives million dollar salaries with additional “bonuses”.
If you get a credit for owning a home, that is some sort of government aid.
“aide”? Like a teaching assistant (an aide in the classroom)?
Or do you mean aid (assistance)?
Even Romney didn’t say half the country is receiving aid. He said 47% (actually 46%) don’t pay federal income tax — because they are in the military, or are retired, or are students, or they work in very low paying jobs like McDonald’s or Walmart jobs, where they pay payroll taxes but not income tax. They pay sales tax, most pay excise taxes or property taxes, but it’s true that 46% of Americans don’t pay federal income tax.
But that doesn’t mean the federal government gives them personal assistants.
NO— 47% pay no taxes. That doesn’t mean 47% are ON welfare . You are mixing up apples and oranges. I can understand why you are so confused. “They” want to confuse you, which is why you need to do independent research and NOT “depend” upon “them” for your sole source of info.
Exactly how do you define “dependent”. Are you talking about the disabled? Are you talking about the retired? Because not including them makes your argument hollow. All you are doing is parroting your recent loser Mitt. Do some thinking for yourself. The Republican party is a party of dependents because their support is highest where people get the majority of income from government sources.
Here are the 10 states with the highest poverty rates. All but NM are governed by Republicans and have had Republicans in control for a long time. All except for NM went for the Republicans for the last few elections. The states are : MS, LA, NM, AL, TX, AR, OK, WV, AZ, SC, TN. So it seems to me that if you want the poverty rate to increase, vote Republican. Of course, they’ll keep telling you that if you want prosperity, vote Repub., but statistics show you otherwise.
What you get with Republicans is fewer and fewer people grabbing more and more of the money. Republican led states lead in poverty rates, rates of uninsured, rates of teen pregnancy, rates of divorce. Nice.
Yes, remember who the people are (you say “half the country”) who are in that 47% that Romney criticized when he thought no one outside the room would hear — our men and women in uniform, retirees who worked all their lives and are now getting Social Security, people working for low-wage jobs (like my nephew who is a security guard at a big box store), etc. Almost all of those people are paying taxes such as payroll taxes, sales taxes, and property taxes.
You may believe that our society should not give a tax break to soldiers; you may believe that retirees are just looking for a handout — apparently that’s what Romney thought.
But most of us believe we are a society that together can accomplish things that we cannot do alone — like build highways, provide for the national defense, and yes, help those who need help, like a man I know who is confined to a wheelchair because he broke his neck in an accident, or my wife’s clients (my wife is a social worker) who have chronic mental illnesses.
Because I am a Christian, I think we have a responsibility for those Jesus called “the least of these.” Okay, I know the Republican mantra — Jesus never asked the Roman government to help its people. Of course, the Roman Emperors were dictators. We have an elected government, and I want our elected officials to pass laws that reflect our values. This isn’t 2,000 years ago anymore.
Never the less despite all the reasons for our largesse, Whether earned like SS or Unemployment or some poverty program basically 50% of the people support the other.
Not true.
Not paying a particular tax is different from receiving support.
46% don’t pay federal income tax — but they do pay other taxes, and most of them are working in low-paying jobs, or are retired, or are in the military serving their country.
You think that because they don’t pay one particular tax, that means they are receiving a handout. Not true.
You need to get a new myth to promote. This one’s pretty stale.
cheesecake you are wasting our time It is clear you WANT to BUY the company line and have no interest in actually understanding what they are trying to peddle to you They lied to you cheescake to get your vote and you bought it hook line and sinker.
Cheesecake, Red States are financially dependent on Blue States. Almost all Blue States contribute more to the government than they receive back, while the exact opposite is true for states that vote Red.
Sorry, GOP voters rail against the very thing they are. Ironic, and sad.
BIG SIGH …. WE are ALL dependent on each others. WE ALL take tax cuts. We ALL benefit financially from each other. Romney and BIG oil take the biggest tax cuts. BUT Joe middle class takes HIS too ….and as Romney’s blunder pointed out and highlighted that Joe middle class may is the 47% !! !Thanks to BUSH”S tax cuts.
You need to do some more independent research ,instead of just embracing “the party line”. It was BUSH”S tax cuts that created that” 47% pay no taxes ” stuff . It was called and intended to be a middle class tax cut—- among other things it doubled the KID deduction. AND it was also the PRIMARY contributor to creating the 10 trillion historuic deficit that BUSH created!!
Very true but we also have become alot more greedier.
The dependent class – like all those people who drive on public streets, or rely of public police/fire/emts, or visit a national park, or fly in our airspace, or use products delivered by rail or truck . . . Yep, pretty much all of us come to depend on others at some point in our day . . . .
I suppose there are 2 views of American…individualism and interdependece . EVERYONE is interdependent , whether they admit it or not. It is the UNITED States of Amercica. From the beginning of time man did not survive or thrive on his own. Staying alone meant almost certain death. First he formed a family, then a tribe, then a clan , then a village etc.. BECAUSE we survive and thrive best TOGETHER , IN a community.
Time will tell whe the unnemployment figure tops 25% then talk about bleeding.
I feel there may be some truth in that figure, since fewer and fewer people are required to operate manufacturing plants that are semi or fully automated. The original ‘smokestack’ econThen omy is gone and replaced by one where you need a technical degree just to get an entry level job.
So where are the jobs?
Service industries, and these are ‘trickle down’ jobs….since it’s largely disposable income from wealthier classes which pay for them. How many art galleries does Maine have and how many crafts people? So who are their customers? Right, the ‘new’ economy is largely a trickle down one.
The other economy is based on welfare and other govt. benefits or borrowing.
Borrowing is a huge factor, esp. when it comes to new house construction. You can blame Barney Franks and the Democrats for the mortgage banking bubble burst; but it sure ignited an economic bonfire as tens of thousands of new houses were build with those ‘easy’ mortgages.
Then there is the ugly side of recovery….class warfare, with the subsidy class using political clout to increase taxing the rich to keep education and in turn the teacher’s unions afloat—-California’s Prop 30 passed with extensive lobbying by colleges and universities.
What is happening are those ‘wealthy’ are going to shield income in a variety of ways and even move it into off shore tax havens, like Sussman’s in the V.I.
Then what?
Then we all find out what it’s like to live in a third world country. Having lived in one for a year & a half i can testify….it isn’t pretty,
But the winning electorate thinks it is. It will be a hard road if acceptance is not in the repubs playbook.
Agreed; the old saying: As Maine Goes, So Goes The Nation………………. That should give us a warm, fuzzy feeling………………. Truly a sad day for our nation…………….
If everything is so bad may I suggest a move, out of the country. Everybody who knows anything about the economy knows that we must have cuts and revenue and if the R’s and D’s are not willing to compromise then this country will go down the tubes.
I think you will find that JFK would have a much better chance of being president than R. Reagan would. The R’s have driven so many out of their party that there is nothing left but old rich white men. This country became great because of both parties getting together and compromise both R’s and D’s. I am one who was a R and they have gone so crazy that with a few exceptions I would never vote for them. Kevin Raye is a perfect example of a moderate R and that is what is needed or the Republican party will be history.
Even Fox News is saying, We need to learn from this. Republicans have to adjust to reality, or they will continue to fall further out of touch.
One example: cutting taxes for rich–trickle down theory–simply doesn’t work.
The American people didn’t fall for Romney’s ancient cliches.
The eight-year GOP stint with Bush and Cheney behind the wheel drove us into a Recession and Depression.
Victory is Obama’s. The teapublicans sank millions into the race, believing that money, and money alone would buy the presidency. Fortunately a lot of people didn’t agree.
But Obama has yet to deal with Repression as cultivated over the past four years by McConnell, Boehner, Cantor, and the distilled remains of the Republican Party, which are still being swilled around amid remains of a self serving and ideological Tea Party.
Over the past four years the Republicans have held this country hostage. They have blocked everything the president has attempted. Are we to undergo another four years of McConnell’s dogmatic stance? Four years ago his only goal was to make sure Obama didn’t get a second term. That was his only goal. Unemployment benefits were saved along with the college loan program and only by paying the ransomers off. That meant leaving the Bush tax cuts in place for the really wealthy people.
Four the next four years we will probably be treated to the same blockade that straps the country and its people from moving forward, thanks to McConnell, Boehner, Cantor, and the rest, who draw down big salaries, free medical care, and essentially live free under the Washington bubble.
We are still struggling with a recession. All the republican tea party gang can do is make it worse.
Like a million times.
If trickle down doesn’t work, does that mean Cutler’s raking his own leaves?
Not if the leaves haven’t trickled down yet. D’ya think the rain’ll hurt the rhubarb?
wake up fool
To sum it up, Cheesecake, I’ll have to borrow a phrase from the younger and fairer generation: sucks to be you.
Not at all. Sucks to be that younger generation. A future of dependence and they are all jumping up and down at the prospect.
We haven’t given that younger generation the benefits we enjoyed in terms of public support for higher education. I finished graduate school in 1977 with but $6,000 in student loans. This was because we seriously funded public higher education.
Beginning with the tax revolt in California in 1979, our support for higher education, one of the foundations of economic growth, has declined. Now Republicans wouldn’t support a single tax increase for any purpose. Until your party understands that we cannot starve this economy of public investment, we will continue to have problems as a society.
I have trouble using the word “investment” in the context you do. But sitting that aside, a well funded public education system is a function of responsible government.
In these tough economic times it becomes necessary to decide how best to finance it. The shotgun spending approach doesn’t seem to have served us very well in other areas. Why do we exempt education?
Do we really need a University of Maine Machias, Presque Isle, Augusta Bangor and on and on? Why do the trade schools get short shrift and we fund gender studies when a program like that might be better served being in a Boston area School rather the U Maine? Or better yet why cut foreign languages to the bone like we have in Orono? We need more people understanding how to speak to other people, not fewer.
On your other topic, did you ever stop to consider where all the money is that corporations are sitting on? Government debt. They are not investing and creating jobs because among other reasons it is safer to put money in government bonds.
Look at the states that succeed, like Massachusetts, and compare them to the states that are failing and remain dependent, like Mississippi. Public investment in education works.
Offshore corporate money is not being invested in US government bonds. The rate of return makes that a poor investment.
Please remember that I posted this spring that the President would win 332-206. As Florida will shortly be called for the President, my prediction was spot on.
Of course offshore money isn’t coming to the US. Why would it? I was referring to Corporate money in the US not being invested because it is government debt.
Yep I remembered your number. Congratulations.
European corporations are far more likely to invest in their home countries.
Perhaps because when they make money overseas it isn’t taxed again when it returns.
Wrong. Both the USA and Europe have a dollar for dollar tax credit for foreign taxes paid on the same income.
Last I knew, foreigners (and rich Americans) were lining up to buy gov’t bonds. This is the debt you are talking about. If the free market were so wonderful, people would be dumping their money into stocks. Instead, the rich are all in line to buy T Bills. For this reason, interest rates are low on T Bills. What part of that means nobody wants gov’t debt? If the American debt was so unwanted, the interest rates would be much higher, and your argument would make sense. As it is, you hold an opinion that is contrary to facts, but from reading your posts, that won’t stop your pontificating.
I think you may have misunderstood me. Of course people want government debt. It’s safe. The problem comes when business chooses not to invest in their business because they are buying government bonds with it. I thought folks wanted business to create jobs?
By issuing all this debt the government has taken the risk out of making money and therefore no growth.
It is indeed a safe place to park large amounts of liquid assets, but a very low interest rate means you won’t make much. This is not an always good thing, but a smart business person also sees it as a good time to borrow money to expand.
Very little of this lack of expansion is due to government regulations, despite what Republicans say. The US Chamber of Commerce (an org that gave huge amounts of money to the Repubs this cycle) published a survey last spring. The survey asked their members to rank the reasons they would be reluctant to grow their business. Government regs came in 8th out of 10. Not exactly a burning issue, and for this reason the automatic rant from the Right about government regulations being the cause of economic slow down has never been documented.
This economic calamity is partly the result of about a trillion dollars disappearing from the American economy in 2007 and 2008. The difference between what all those defaulted houses were actually worth and what money had been paid for them went into the pockets of a very few well connected people. We have reached a level of income distribution in this country that is worse than many Third World countries. It is estimated that 16% of the income of the U.S. goes to 1000 families. Think of it, if you spend 10 bucks on something, more than $1 is already taken as income by a very rich person. The rest of that $10 gets divided by the 300,000,000 others. This is not luck, not hard work for the most part. It is the result of a tax system that rewards moving money around more than it does some one who works as a taxi driver, truck driver, teacher or doctor. When the guy who makes 50 thousand selling stock pays the same tax rate as I do, then the Right can talk about “job creators”. Until then, they have some explaining to do as to why the last 10 years of even lower taxes for them resulted in so much harm for the rest of us.
Some good points on the University system, with which I am quite familiar.
A well-funded public education system is not only “a function of responsible government,” it’s an investment in the talents of a country’s citizens. A well-funded public health-care system is also both of those things, as is a well-funded public transportation system. It is easier for people to find work when they are educated, healthy and can get around.
How many people were employed on the construction of the interstate highway system, which was 90% paid for by federal tax dollars? How many people were employed by NASA during the Apollo moon program? The idea that government does not create jobs is nonsense. We need a healthy private-public mix, not dogma.
That observation certainly was not pointed out in the way the young voted yesterday …
Ah, but cheesey my boy, you aren’t getting out enough. This old great grandmother has a lot of faith in them. Guess it all comes down to the old “glass half full, half empty,” eh? Try hanging out with some young Democrats and you may change your mind-you know, those lousy, “entitled” ones who are hitting the books and preparing for a bright future. DH & I just spent many weeks w/them during the GOTV campaign and they’ve given us a lot of reason to be hopeful.
Maybe, after this asswhooping the Repubs took, somr of them will ask the question, “What are we doing wrong?” and come up with something new. I think they lost track of what this country is all about, the 99% not the corporations and the rich.
You are probably right. Some of the more weak kneed among them may well join the rush to buy votes with government largesse. It is an attractive notion and it doesn’t cost you a dime. Only the taxpayer and who cares about them.
Today is the “Great Beginning” meaning the great beginning of Socialism for America. A sad,sad day for us all. I will continue to stock more guns and ammo and hoard emergency supplies for what will be coming.
Welcome to another four years of people continuing to feel more positive about the future and, with luck, not listening to the haters, the birthers and the tea drinkers.
Margaret Chase Smith would not even recognize today’s Republican Party and would have delivered another Declaration of Conscience speech directed at Romney and his 47% remark.
Not one Democrat I know is asking for anything resembling taxpayer dollars. Pour the Kool-Aid down the drain, please. I do know the difference and hope that the days of hate and vitriol are behind us.
Yes, your kind of thinking has created a huge fall and many of us hope that your mentality will not continue to cloud our landscape.
I almost feel bad for you, Cheese. Key word, almost. The sky is fine.
No need. Thanks. I am moving my Metals from 5% of my portfolio to 10%. I’m good.
You won’t see those dipping any time soon.

The nation of takers . . . the bankers who took bailouts, the Romneys who took their cash and many jobs out of the US, the wealthy who took tax breaks instead of paying for the war on terror. These people feel entitled and chances are indeed very good that we may never escape the results of their greed. One man’s just reward is another man’s entitlement.
fours years of ineptitude gridlock and a poor economy, thank you the Republican party for all the road blocks you have put in front of President Obama, and lookie lookie he hurdled everyone. even the biggest, 4 more years. thank you thank you.
“”Ask not what your country can do for you, Ask what you can do for your country.” ~~~JFK” That quote is s what created a whole generation of teachers, social workers and public servants—– instead of going into the PRIVATE sector . It created things like VISTA and Peace corps , community action agencies etc….It’s funny you have to apologize for quoting the commentator. A whole generation committed themselves to PUBLIC service, instead of themselves, because of that VERY famous quote that lit a fire under a whole generation to “serve’ ‘ their country . ODD now you all insult them and call them a burden to society and taxpayers . How times and politics change.
And it was his brother BOBBY who “discovered” Hunger in America, documented it and sought to end IT and ALL poverty in America. He was shocked and ashamed to discovery so many hungry in the wealthiest nation of all .. THAT was considered ” serving America” and Americans!!! HELPING others was considered “contributing” to the greater good and a very AMERICAN “attribute”
Maybe after five years of campaigning, he can now try being a President.
Mitch McConnell has vowed to do everything in his power to ensure that Obama is a two term president! lol.
I guess that worked out for him, what a jerk.
In a way, its good that democrats were so successful. Now we can blame
everything on them. I would assume that after four years, we can no
longer blame Bush for everything. They better hope that things take a
turn for the better because so far, democrats are totally responsible
for 8% unemployment and annual trillion dollar deficits. Not to mention the division and partisanship that Mr Obama has provided.
And the stock market is already in the tank the day after the election.
“In a way, its good that democrats were so successful. Now we can blame
everything on them.”
*Note to entitled, you have been blaming democrats for everything bad for years.
Just following your lead of blaming republicans for everything bad. I think that you call them teapublicans or something cute like that.
Notice that the stock market is already tanking because of the election results. That’s the fault of the liberals and their tax, spend and regulate policies.
“Tanking”….Really? Even today you guys can’t stop going way over the top.
The market should move higher…. not because of any glee over profits or earnings or Obamas election.. but because the fed is pumping into the system $40 billion per month for the foreseeable future. Buy on the dips. :)
The massive jobs program that will be the result of “Sandy” has to not only boost the economy but the market as well. You offer excellent advise to buy on the dips
I have never once called republicans teapublicans. Like most everything else you post you seem to be wrong once again. As a republican since 1967 the only thing bad that I blame them for is selling out to the radical right. As far as the stock market is concerned hasn’t anyone ever told you that one days results normally do not mean very much. But hey when you take the kind of beating your side took yesterday I suppose you have to reach for any straw you can find.
Thank you, TrainguyJim — my thoughts EXACTLY!
Congrats to President Obama. Now it’s on him…
And 4 years ago people said he would destroy the United States if elected but that has not happened and it will not happen in the next 4 years.
yes he did
Kevin, can we at least now say that it’s not Bush’s fault anymore?
I never said it was but don’t worry, the sun will appear tomorrow. Life will go on and the United States will survive the next four years.
It’s only you guys moaning over and over about that. Bush was barely mentioned in the debates, yet you guys still said Obama blamed him. Quit operating in your own reality and come back to planet earth.
Hey I’m taking the high road here. I congratulated the Pres. A sad night for moderates/conservatives as far as the Presidential race goes, but happy about SSM passing.
The high road? By pretending that all Democrats have been doing is blaming Bush? Please — get real.
Moderates and progressives won today. Even conservatives won today butthey are not bright enought o see it. The only ones who may have lost last night are the rich and corporations, but they will still do pretty good under Obama.
Bush who? Bush who? Bush who? Now the Owls come out. His name was Poison to Republicans during this campaign. Explain that.
Best comment on here. :-)
NOPE, responsibility doesn’t end for the train wreck, just because you want it to.
The aftermath of ten years of war begun by Bush will always be Bush’s fault.
Status quo = Lost decade
Everyone with a job needs to go to bed so that you can get up and go to work tomorrow. Millions of Obama voters are counting on you.
Excuse me but the number of “47% ers” is highest in red states…along with the birth rate among teens, etc.
And your point is what talk?
The fact that you ask that speaks volumes.
the point is, anyone that tries to imply only republicans work…is a buffoon
fuji, the states that are most dependent on the federal government are the same states that vote overwhelmingly GOP.
It’s a fact. Sorry to shatter your incorrect view. GOP voters ARE the welfare recipients of America, and the Blue States are supporting them.
Can’t wait for all the Republicans to leave for Canada now that Obama has won a second term.
And what exactly would that accomplish? You actually believe that “all” Republicans are so upset by his re-election they would leave this country? Kind of dillusional arent you? You want others to give up on their country just because a Democrat won the race? Republicans are not as lame as you sound, seriously.
Their own words…coming back to haunt them.
Sorry but do you know how many posts here and on Facebook and comments I heard from Republican;s who claimed thay would leave if Obama won. Those are who my original post was aimed at.
Well we can just add them to the list of being ignorent. I cant imagine thinking that way. I didnt vote for Obama but no way would I give up this country because he won. There are some good things he has done but for the most part I am very disappointed and he lost my respect when he told people to vote for revenge. I was actually thinking of changing my party until he said that. It spoke volumes to me. I hope we are all happy in the end of the next 4 years.
Or return to isolation in their cabins in the woods where th4 only harm they do is to their own kind.
Do you really think the Canadians are dumb enough to let them in?
Someone ought to check on Ted Nugent.
Congratulations President Obama. I knew that you could do it. Same Sex Marriage is also about to go through and we will lead the country in people finally allowing everyone to be treated equally. I am sure we will see some interesting posts over the next few days from all of you that LOST!!!!…Tonight, I sleep with a huge smile on my face:)
Makes two of us and thank you to all that took the time to go out and vote yesterday.
Howey Carr was crying on Fox, what a buffoon.
The lesson is clear, republicans are now seen as extremist and the Tea Party is at fault.
I am so sad I missed that but I know I can find the clip later. How bad was he crying?
and Fox news took out the shepherd hook to haul ROVE off the stage as he kept insisting ( waving his white board) that it wasn’t over yet .
Karl ripped off corporate america royally with his song and dance ….and all the banks are deeply regretting their “investments”. tonight . The best humiliation of CITIZEN:S United is this election –all the BIG MONEY LOST , the people were victorious and NOT fooled. And equilibrium retrurns to the land via the VOTE “they” tried to take away from the people. FREEDOM AND LIBERTY AND DEMOCRACY REIGNS and isn’t just a symbol !
Well, to be fair, Rove and his deception bought tens and tens of millions of votes for Romney.
Can you imagine what the final vote would have looked like without people like Rove and his corporate masters brainwashing a couple hundred million people into voting against themselves???
and yet HE lost …. enjoy it… a lot of money spent for nothing… they will think twice next time before buying into the song and dance. No matter how hard they tried AMERICA ( voters) could NOT be bought Yup It was a squeaker!!!
Obama ( and D’s ) won by the most where R’s over stepped the most with their “agenda” in 2010 —-anti women, anti imigrant, anti worker , anti voter …. WI, OHIO, PENN etc Let that be anothert “lesson” to them —they actually NEED voters to win , ticking them off backfires.
Now we need to have the Supreme Court overturn their own judgement for Citizens United. Get the special interests with deep pockets OUT of American politics. One person, one voice!
Sad isn’t it? Money couldn’t even buy Romney.
Did you count the US taxpayer dollars used to insure Obama’s re-election in your grand total?
prove it.
Stimulus, Obamacare, Bank bailouts, handing GM to the Unions, Unemployment, Food Stamps, Disability. Increased funding to 60 other poverty programs. Just for starters.
Stimulus? HAHAHA again. Who signed the first stimulus? When did the stock market take its first dive? You need some new material.
You asked. Its true.
We’re used to the “fact” that if you say it, it is true. We also know you are wrong!
True? Where?
Ugh….You should probably just give it a rest for today.
Karl Rove was questioning FOX News’ decision to call Ohio for Obama with only a seperation of only 991 votes between Obama and Romney with almost 2 million votes outstanding. all ”
“the BIG MONEY LOST “, Not hardly, Obama had as much big money in his corner as Romney.
Yes, it’s true that both Obama and Romney raised record amounts of money. My understanding is that when you factor in the super-pacs that the Supreme Court gave us in their Citizens United ruling, the Republicans outspent the Democrats in the presidential race by a significant, but not overwhelming, amount.
That said, the big $$$ that Republican super-pacs poured into Maine to trash Angus King didn’t work.
And it’s interesting to look at the race in Connecticut, where Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate Linda MacMahon spent $42 million of her own money — and lost. She could have given me $1 million, kept the rest, and would have achieved the same result!
Best of all, Tea Party radicals over the past two election cycles have lost a significant number of Senate races for the Republicans, so we owe a big “thank you” to the tea party for keeping the Senate in Democratic control!
What Karl failed to remember last night was that that “The Secretary of State’s office says that the vote is still to close to call” thingy only works if your candidate’s brother happens to be the Governor of the State. But it sure was fun watching Fox News get rid of whatever was left of their cred.
buffoon, in case y’all missed it…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Zy23pvkobU
Obama, gay marriage, King, and legal marijuana in Colorado as a nice little bonus. Damn good night, I’d say.
What an awesome night it has been. I have the biggest smile on my face right now.
:^)
Hope it lasts for four years, but I doubt it will last long past January.
weak leader hope china dont nuke us or iran for that matter bo will say cant we just get along what a joke but very scary.
It’s Romneyese spoken in their alternative planet! Only repubs can understand it because they don’t make any sense either when they try their hate tactics!
That would be, “Hope China doesn’t nuke us,” if you’re interested in learning English. That would be a great beginning, joe, in your understanding of world events. If not, at the very least you could serve as our poster boy for what nukes do to the human brain.
What are you trying to imply? Hope the Feds are monitoring this!
let’s see how you smile when you cant get the health care you need because someone who is not a doctor say’s you dont need that.even if you can pay yourself you may have to wait to long and die.anyone who voted for bo will regret it sooner or later.
That’s why the Repubs was voted out. The scare tactics are obsolete. You might want to try a different line now. Then someone just might listen to your troll breath.
Just not true — do you really believe that propaganda?
I read the Act Penzance…..it’s there…..
Not, it’s not .I read the bill .
You did? Maybe a Fox deciphered version of it…
Are you kidding? That’s the way it’s been for years now. People who couldn’t get health insurance were dying or going bankrupt because they couldn’t afford it. Apparently most Americans weren’t fooled by the scare tactics you present because they chose President Obama. Just wait until 2014 when the Affordable Care Act is fully implemented. It may not be perfect, but at least it’s better than the old system where many were turned away because they didn’t earn the privilege to have health care.
Oh you’re so silly. That happens already, has been happening forever…..that has been addressed in the Affordable Healthcare act.
Mitt Romney!
Apres Election Morning Hangover ” Dam” “6 Years, and One Billion Dollars Down the Drain” !
This is great. The homophobic ‘liberals are the devil’ types must still be figuring out how to get their jaws off the floor.
Maybe removing their foot from their mouth will help…
Engaging their brains wouldn’t hurt, either…assuming they have one. After taking the lazy way out and only hearing the vile, toxic comments spewing from their pastors before forming their opinions, I’d say the brains are somewhat rusty.
Please re read your comment and notice the toxicistity of YOUR comment.
A small bit of rust remover might help you to realize it is “toxicity.”
Thank you for correcting my spelling.
You’re very welcome, larry, but do yourself a favor: keep learning, keep reading, and keep educating thyself.
Every day.
I’d give you the same advice and suggest a wider source of information.
hope you know survival most liberal sheep can not survive on their own. what happens when the supermarkets have no food because our great leader wont let us get fuel.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
LOL most libs are Organic Farmers..we’ll all do just fine while you all get poisoned by GMO’s!
That’s more fear mongering from the Tea Party right….never will happen.
It is happening in NJ right now.
Oh you know this? My 80 year old mother lives in the midst of that sadness. Not easy, but she’s been getting gas, and aid. Food has been available, shelter, access…Better than Katrina, where the Bush Administration FROZE and left people to die….. Huge difference.
I am glad that your mother is getting what she needs but I am hearing stories that say things are worse than katrina and weather is beginning to get really cold.
I understand that Staten Island isw still in need of a lot of help
if she voted for bo all she will get is a huge tax bill
Joe6000 – no she is an ardent Republican and voted for Bush both times, and Romney this time. Your assumptions are pretty darn pathetic.
Larry, where are those “stories” coming from? Please provide a source.
Some come from interviews, yes mostly on Fox, some are from relief workers I know.
It is NOT as bad as Katrina. Wow. Comparing Sandy to Katrina is sheer stupidity.
and she voted for bo good night
Whether she foted for Obama or not, she will get that bigger bill.
I wish that those that voted for Obama would be the only ones to suffer the ills to follow, but it will be the entire country.
When it happens, the Obama supporters will scream bloody murder the loudest and longest, and will still look for SOMEONE ELSE to pay their way out. Then they will still defend him and kiss his feet.
Wow. Gas is short because of power outages and delivery problems and you’re blaming that on the President? Guess the wild hyperbole won’t disappear.
I am not blaming the dirtbag for the failings on FEMA, he is to blame for things he has done and not done, but not the fact that FEMA is as useless under his regiem as it was under Bush’s.
The Tea Party must actually be a reference to the Mad Hatter’s tea party and not the Boston Tea Party, because those people have more than a few screws loose. As it happens, for the heck of it, I googled my own name tonight and learned there is another woman in Maine with the same first name, middle initial, and last name that has her own web page regarding the Tea Party. I hope to God that no one thinks I am this woman, lol.
,,,,,,,,
Bet Georga Grivois buys all her food…..prolly already mutated, sorry that was mean, but deserved.
i agree she lie like bo
No she probably does lie like Romney and Rove though. Those lies couldn’t be better documented joe6000.
we’ll eat organic from our OWN gardens’…. and walk to the store.
ok
Yes Brandon a very good night indeed.
I never liked Romney
It should have been Huntsman and then one of the moderate female Senators.
I never liked Bush!
still far better than the alternative
Bush wasn’t eligible to run again.
Jeb
Rubio
2016
Mr Rodgers
Captain Kangaroo
2016
They Have a Better Shot at it!
He feels the same way about you.
How did you know?
LOL
Romney has lost, why doesn’t he concede? Is he waiting for a miracle?
Happening right now.
He’s waiting for a message from Moroni.
waiting to get permission from Rove and Norquist and Goldman and BOA and Koch boys and oh never mind the list is TOO long .
This is time for the Tea Party…….to stop partying. They all have a bulls eye on them……no one is gonna listen to their crap. LePage, im sure is shivering and wondering……when’s my next trip to Florida?………..Not long pal.
It appears D’s have control of the Maine senate again and Lepage( and the extremes) have been made impotent…. No BIG agenda for them. Now they will have to play nice and ask politely “Mother, may I?”
Both Houses look like they will be controlled by the Democrats.
Maine voters have thoroughly repudiated Paul LePage.
… but John Martin will not be part of the D majority because he FINALLY lost. That is sweet.
Icing on the cake!
For those stuck in a small picture mindset, this election means a lot. For those with the big picture in mind, realize how all the big issues weren’t going to be fixed by either candidate. The big picture being that our economy is unbalanced and money continues to flow out of the country. Manufacturing will continue to leave the United States to cheap labor countries and so will any sort of technological and intellectual advantage.
Oh, and Democrats, don’t be too pleased, you’ll have more of the same of the last two years, not the first two, Obama started out partisan and partisan will be how it is until his term runs out. Problem with being partisan is that unless you have a majority in the House and Senate, you’re not getting anything done. The world economic situation is barely holding on as it is, when people finally realize that these little adrenaline shots can no longer keep other countries afloat, one after another will fall, leading to the United States financially collapsing. In some ways, Romney would have helped Democrats for the future more than if Obama is caught with the hot potato when the economy collapses.
Republicans really need to just ditch the religious right. You can promote policies that help out all businesses and not just corporations and still seem like your interested in the average American, but when you argue social issues, you lose. Women who want abortions will find a way one way or another, making them illegal doesn’t solve the societal issue of why they are necessary. Nor is arguing for defining marriage by the biblical definition rather than accepting that it’s a government definition. Now argue for less government intervention in personal lives and you can win, less promoting of reliance on government assistance, same thing. Oh, and maybe getting a candidate who doesn’t need to be taught how to be more personable would be useful. Also, was the best candidate you could find one that had big corporation written all over him?
But hey, the “winners” can celebrate.
(Edited to add on the part about it being the government’s definition of marriage and not a biblical definition, which I had left as a fragmented sentence)
partisan? when the head republican senator says the most important thing for them is to hold obama to 1 term—and you whine about obama being partisan? you’re a real hoot
Looks like they’re going to hold him to two terms. They’re 50 percent there on goal accomplishment!
The first thing Obama said, and paraphrasing it was, “Get in the back seat and shut up”. Saying something like that doesn’t make the other side say “we want to work with you”. He had built up quite the attitude by blaming everything on Bush and the Republicans. Wasn’t he also the one who had the “clinging to guns and religion” quote.
And many things he tried pushing he had a hard time even getting support from Democrats, so the chance of Republican support was minimal.
Working together is a two way street, and Obama was not innocent in the partisan mess that this country will continue to be in. If someone insulted you, I’m sure you wouldn’t be thinking, “hey, I want to be this person’s friend” and you’d probably remember it for a while. That’s what is going to follow Obama around.
And the Republicans filibustering essentially everything, even the uncontroversial, our courts are severely understaffed in terms of Justices for example, says what? You may have your own version of reality, but most of America recognizes it is the Republicans who aren’t playing nice. They see Obama with Republicans in his cabinet, they see him including Republican ideas in his proposals, etc.
In the end, it’s both sides at fault, and both sides will make jabs at one another that prolong the issue and neither side has had the guts to really offer maybe a little more that the other side really wants to get them at the table for one deal and bring them back for future deals that would be more balanced.
No, it’s not. That’s like saying someone who likes hamburgers and someone who is a cannibal are the same because they both eat meat.
Obama has done plenty of reaching and the Republicans respond by moving their goal posts further and further back.
lol
I don’t agree that the next four years will be more of the same. This election shows that American’s want action that re-balances the economy and rewards companies and people on the basis of producing excellence and not just profit.
We are the only country in the world the rewards the off-shoring of jobs. The only country that does not tax offshore profits. All the while we do this we’re giving concessions to companies to build plants here.
I think the economic powerhouse that our ancestors and we produced can easily survive this, but we have to find ways that provides opportunities and reward for everyone. I happen to believe that our loss of industry had a lot to do with the attacks on unions and working people. I worked in the paper industry with workers who were giving their all, but the rewards were being cashed by those at the top.
I’ll tell you the difference between the democrat party and the republican party. I’m looking at Romney’s concession speech and out of the thousands of people in the crowd I counted 2 blacks and 1 Asian. In Chicago the crowd is completely mixed. This is the real America…all of us.
The election says a bit, but it was a lot closer than your making it out to be. I just don’t see it being enough to tell Republicans that holding a grudge against Obama is going to cost them more than it would cost Obama.
And unions can be very good at keeping companies honest and giving employees a good wage for the profit they produce for the company. The problem is that unions and a system that promotes shipping jobs overseas for the cheaper labor made unions into the ones who gave companies an excuse to ship jobs overseas. Some unions went beyond reasonable on their demands as well, and that hurt all unions by giving the impression that all unions were being unreasonable. For unions to become powerful again, manufacturing in the United States needs to be promoted and protected.
As far as the racial makeup of crowds, I wouldn’t say that it’s fair to judge policies based on it, because people tend to ignore policies when they can relate as either a minority, a certain religion (the religious right). If a politician from Maine was running for president, you can imagine that many Mainers may just vote for them because they connect with them as a Mainer. But Romney definitely could not connect with many minorities, and most of that was due to a lack of talking on a personality level and talking respectfully about what an individual might be facing. If you sound like a rich guy who hasn’t had to deal with adversity when you talk to someone, you’re not connecting to the majority of the country.
The electoral college was a landslide which was Obama’s goal. The popular vote is still being counted but is pushing 2 million more votes for Obama. I think it says is he can make a plan, develop a strategy and win. Given the economy he was extremely vulnerable.
I think the House republican’s are going to think twice about stalling any longer on the tax increases for the rich. Obama said in his acceptance speech that he was going to take his cause to the American people and he has the infrastructure in place to influence the mid term elections. The republicans threw everything they had at him to deprive him of success, but I don’t think that’s going to be a successful strategy going forward. Most American’s support restoring the taxes for the rich.
Unions created the improvements in wages and conditions. Unfortunately the “skills” they had that gained them the power also made them vulnerable. The corruption and mismanagement and their failure to transform themselves into a modern force for workers is what cost them their strength. Other countries did a better job of integrating them into a force for excellence and it’s not too late for us. Workers need a powerful political force to represent their interests to counter and balance business. I think if we had that all along the jobs would not have disappeared so quickly
I think that what destroyed our industrial base is the lack of investment and poor management. The Maine paper industry is a good example. They spent millions fighting environmental cleanup when it actually benefited them to do it. They were pulling 3 million gallons a day of river water, heating it to 115 degrees and dumping it back in the river along with thousands of tons of expensive pulp. Their safety record was horrible and quality suffered from the lack of statistical process control. They had a terrible adversarial relationship with the hourly people which was just poor management. Waste was millions of dollars. All the while they had to cut the price of their paper because of quality. Most people don’t realize that the business was lost to the European mills because of quality issues, not cheap labor.
I think republican’s need to get some sensitivity training. Their main weakness is they are running out of angry old white guys.
Hey!
Where did all the Conservatives Go?
Mitt Lost!!!!!
Now is the Time to Blame Obama!!!!!!!!!!!
They already set things up earlier in the week — it’s the hurricane’s fault.
Mitt Romney is being are arse by not conceding.
supposed to concede any minute now
I’m going to gloat for a solid 24 hours and then go back to being respectable.
:)!
I’m going to join you in gloating and I’m sure a lot of others will as well. This is a great, great day.
A night to remember. Sort of like some twisted nightmare that won’t go away really. 4 More years of nothing being accomplished in Washington ( except spending us into oblivian) as both sides try and screw over the other side.
America is the loser, no matter who’s in the White House.
Angus King our new Senator? That is a true joke.
As an Independent, Angus will have some leverage for Maine.
Independent is sort of misrepresenting his position. He’s more Democrat than anything but mixes in populist stances when it’s beneficial, and by not declaring himself a Democrat, he can sell himself to more potential voters.
But, out of the options, he was the only one I could really vote for, even though I still to this day disagree with his choice of Macs over PCs when the laptop program came out.
Well TeaPublicans, are you learning the lesson? All the lies, all the corporate money, all the dirt, all for NOTHING. You have a choice. Re-enter the world of reason and moderation, or continue down the path of extremism and nonsense. But if you choose the latter path, you are politically DOOMED.
I’d prfer they go back into isolation and hang out with their own kind and leave the rest of us alone!!
I think most Americans understand our military is stressed and over-extended.
Bush II got us into a couple of big messes, and put it all on the credit card. Obama got us out of Iraq, helped our allies overthrow Ghadaffi, got bin Laden and other top al-Qaida commanders, and is gradually getting us out of Afghanistan. But Afghanistan is a difficult mess despite the courage and dedication of our fine men and women in the armed forces. It will take time to get out without leaving the Taliban in control.
Romney seemed to want to rashly push for war with Iran. Despite some difficulties, I prefer President Obama’s steadier hand.
Very well said, Penzance. I went to bed before the results were all in and my thoughts kept turning to Bush and his for-no-good-reason wars which enriched his friends with no-bid contracts (the real “trickle-down” concept) and feared Romney doing the same with Iran to enrich his own pals in the upper echelon. Frightening thought …
If they do that, then who is going to pay all your bills?
Oh we will still tax them, IF they work for a living. I suspect they are all living “off the grid” in more ways then one ( or “on welfare ‘ and/or cheating the system one way or another ).
Landslide!!
Obama won the battleground states by a narrow margin. If a few of those states had gone the other way, it could have looked like a Romney landslide. Overall in the popular vote it was very close.
It’s a win, but not as indicative of the overall country’s opinion between the two as far as the electoral college is concerned.
Oh Lord, give it up.
America has decided, so now it is time for the GOP to stop obstructing, and start helping America. For 4 years, the only goal the GOP had was to harm the country, so they would be better positioned to win this race. Their plan failed.
GOP, time to grow up, and listen up. AMERICA HAS SPOKEN.
America only speaks when it elects a republican. When a dem wins, it’s due to supernatural factors. Don’t hold your breath waiting for soul searching on the part of the conservatives who still think Clinton murdered Vince Foster, and fluoridation is a plot to steal our ‘bodily essences’.
It was a landslide. We use an electoral college system in this country for the purpose of maintaining states’ rights — something that conservatives harp on and on about, but I guess in your case, that’s only when it’s convenient.
And yes it is indicative of the overall country’s opinion. That’s how elections work.
What you’re saying in nonsense. Have some integrity and give credit where it’s due.
In theory, in every state, there could be a 1 vote difference all going to one party. In that situation, this leading to a 50 vote difference out of over 100 million votes on a national level. According to your argument, it would be a complete landslide because of a winner takes all system, actually it would indicate that 100% of the country agrees with that one party and not the other, when the popular vote would say 50/50. I’m just pointing out that while it wasn’t close in many states, a couple percentage points in a few battleground states could have flipped the entire situation around and you’d be arguing that it wasn’t a landslide victory for Republicans.
It was a landslide, sweetheart.
“May you live in interesting times” is an ancient Chinese curse (appropriate, given who the US is indebted to). Guess what? We, in the United States of America, now live in intereting times with the re-election of Barack Hussein Obama.
The republicans won the house!
Were it not for the redistricting (read ‘gerrymandering’) that was done following the 2010 census, the House Republicans would have been soundly defeated. The only way they were able to maintain control of the House is by cutting voting districts up and redrawing them based on voting records, so that they could create “safe seats” everywhere there was a Republican. It is a very underhanded way of winning, but both sides do it when they are in power, and if they happen to be in power the year after a census, it is practically impossible to run against them.
Stop talkin already Obama and get back to work. Actually don’t, the country has been doing better while you have been on the campaign trail.
The republican party has been put on notice that it is time to clean house and return to the values of Eisenhower, the last great republican President. Get rid of the neocons and the tea party, and anyone who signed the pledge to Norquist.
Hardly a surprise that the most corrupt President in the country’s history wins re-election. Fortunately the Reps. held on to the house so they can continue to block most of Obama’s damage. It’s unfortunate that, since the dumbing down of the electorate is obviously complete, nothing short of a military coup is going to remove the sleaze that taken over our government. Wonder how long it will be before conservative Supreme Court justices start dying mysteriously?
Doubt it — the moderate House Republicans aren’t going to vote in lockstep anymore. They don’t want to lose their seats like their colleagues did!
God save us.
Which god?
why? the good guy won
WRONG!
no laddie, you’re wrong, however , since you seem to want to follow the republican plan to give more to the wealthy, well, i’m wealthier than you so just send me your money
In your dreams.
He sent us a hurricane to help the candidate He preferred.
Just think in the next 4 yrs. we can pay $6.49 per gallon of gas and heating oil will be $6.99 a gallon Just think under the Obama health care plan we will have to out local Vet. This country can’t handle another 4 yrs of him. I am a proud Romney voter.
I remember Rush the blow hole saying gas would be over 5 dollars a gallon nation wide, that never did happen but yet you think it will now hit 6 dollars plus.
Our country will be just fine and I’m a proud Obama voter.
you would be
He would be a winner?
.
You have that right.
I have wondered this for a long time and you seem pretty darn smart to me (and I mean that in a good way)so I will ask YOU this question. What is the obsession with Rush? Why would anyone with any level of intelligence think that Rush Limbaugh speaks for Republicans just because he is a Republican? I think he is a waste of space and in no way speaks for me or the majority of Republicans when he opens his fat face. Rush thinks that way so therefore we ALL think that way? Seriously? And why has Democrats assumed…and I use that word carefully, that all Republicans only watch FOX news? I could be just as ignorent and assume that all Democrats are in love with Rachel Maddow and only watch MSNBC….sounds silly doesnt it?
I’m glad you did your civic duty. It’s now time to stop the bickering and get the parties to work together so that gas won’t be $6 a gallon.Work to actually help provide those jobs, work together like the people of New Jersey and New York are doing.
It’s time to work together and build a public transportation infrastructure, instead of saying “No” to needed high-speed rail projects in heavily trafficked areas like the Tampa-Orlando corridor. If gas prices continue to rise and traffic worsens, we need viable alternatives.
The country can’t if the Republicans are not willing to compromise.
Billions of dollars spent on this, if he would have taken the “campaign” money and put it toward the budget, that would have been something worth talking about. At least we still have LePage.
not for long– liar lepage will never get a second term
And he is practicing his “quack, quack” to get ready for the next two years.
God help us.
For all who voted for the amatuer, your tune may change when Obamacare costs you your job, he takes your 401k’s and other retirement accounts, gas hits $10 per gallon, and this country turns into Venezuela. Look no further than yourselves for the destruction of your childrens future.
I hope the liberals get everything that they voted for!… however ….so won’t we..
bs – and you people want to keep giving the wealthy tax breaks— guess i’ll listen to one of the ones that started this mess rather than you economic genuises—-“David Stockman, President Ronald Reagan’s director of the Office of Management and Budget, explained in an op-ed piece, “Four Deformations of the Apocalypse,” exactly how the economic decisions of the GOP over the past 40 years, is destroying not just the economy and capitalism, but the America dream
Never said I was an economic genius. But I can add. 10 Trillion added debt in the past 4 years. The CBO estimates at least another 1T per year for the next 10 years just to pay for the entitlement programs that are already to take affect. And who knows whats next.?
yeah , that amatuer, the one that had to clean up the mess from the mba — even republicans say so–
Just checked the obituaries the constitution and america are both in there
I saw that too!
Dont’ forget the Republican party is also toes up.
Congratulations barracks oshama, you are now fully authorized to continue your devastation of America. Mr. Romney, thanks for your attempting to right the ship, some Americans feel they want more of the last four years.
I wonder if Obama will blame the failures of his upcoming term on the problems he inherited from his previous one
how about explaining how you are over taxed
You must not pay any or. very little
sorry loser, like i said, i pay more in 1 year than you do in 5
That is very simple, when I pay 12 to 15 thousand a year in taxes and then more at tax time, and others pay nearly nothing and then get the “earned income credit” refund that is far more than they paid in I feel overtaxed That in itself is nothing more than distribution of wealth
however the distribution is going to the top– we have been cutting taxes for the wealthy for 40 years–
i pay as much as you as well as property tax on a large property in central maine and a beach front home on one of the islands in casco bay– and i dont feel i’m over taxed, perhaps you need a better accountant–
stop whining about the 47%
”
Mitt Romney’s “47%” who pay no federal income tax include several thousand of the highest-income households in the country.
The Tax Policy Center estimates that 4,000 households with incomes over $1 million ended up with zero federal income tax liability in 2011. Another 14,000 made between $500,000 and $1 million.
In 2009, six tax filers among the country’s 400 richest tax filers owed absolutely nothing in federal income taxes——This, despite the fact that those six filers belong to a group whose average adjusted gross income clocked in at $202.4 million, according to new IRS data
We’re still not done cleaning up the mess, but we’re getting there! k
Ya…this time he inherited his in mess
The aftermath of ten years of war is the mess he inherited.
http://youtu.be/mzHAlwEK7a4
No he’ll blame Boehner……or the 32 republican governors.. this is worth a watch
http://youtu.be/mzHAlwEK7a4
Rest assured , You can “Blame” Obama for Romneys Loss!
I truly hope for Obama’s success in his second term. We have to trust that the process was fair and honor the outcome of the election and support the decision of the majority and keep faith in our
election process. I do have to wonder the mentality and thought process of the majority
that would think that high unemployment, an economy that after four years of Obama’s policy is still floundering at best, with record numbers of unemployed, over 45 million people on food stamps with many more on other forms of government assistance gas prices that are double from 4 years ago is reason to grant Obama a second term. Apparently it is more about a dog and pony show than it is about fixing what is actually wrong within this country. Just think the majority has elected a President for a second term that has yet to even pass a budget in his first four years; this
I believe is unprecedented to go through a whole Presidential term without a federal
budget. The days of blaming Bush for all the problems of this nation are over,
Obama now owns the state of affairs in this country. Obama must now produce
solutions to turn this nation around; anything short of this will be a
testament that this will be looked upon as a very sad day in America
People voted this way because the vast majority of us don’t respond to these taken out of context statistics and parroted talking points. We were losing millions of jobs before Obama took office and that kept going in the first months of his Presidency — but that slowed and now we’re gaining jobs back again and the economy is growing. That’s progress. And OBVIOUSLY more people are going to be on a food stamps during a recession, OBVIOUSLY.
People voted this way because we now have a majority of people who feel that the government is the answer to all the problems in this country and there is very little acceptance of personal responsibility left. the comments are not taken out of text, the numbers are facts. Unemployment will not improve by any measurable amount anytime soon. The dependence on the governemnt will continue and liberals will still buy votes with the shallow promises of better times and the theme that “we will support you until they do”, the promises that now is the time for change and keeping things the same.
You sound very arrogant presuming to know why people voted the way you did. Your party lost and massively — why don’t you take this time to humble yourself and stop pretending like you know everything, like you have everything figured out.
Also, you’re the problem with politics. You can’t disagree with someone without maligning them, without lying about them and denigrating them. That’s disgusting. Disagree with them all you want, but you don’t have to turn them into these awful monsters in your head. Grow up.
I guess you should read your post from above if you are claiming that I am arrogant and while you are at it read the posts of several liberals within this thread. You always claim that everything that is stated in a negative manor against your messiah, Obama is either a lie, out of context or the poster is a puppet of the rightwing. You are guilty of everything that you accused me of in your post. You display an elitist attitude, try to make yourself out to in someway be superior, because you are to the left. We will see how Obama decides to govern, whether it is more of the same mentality of “I have a mandate” or if he will choose to act like a leader and bridge the gap that divides this nation. We as a country do not have much time to right this fiscal ship before it starts to sink. It has been taking on water for the last eight years. That’s right I did say eight years, I am not in anyway fooled to think that this was all created within just the last four years, but I am smart enough to know that there has been nowhere near enough improvement. Let’s all hope that Obama is successful in his promise, that he needed four more years to get it fixed. I for one will not hold my breath, because I do not think that he is capable of being a bipartisan leader, and that is what it is going to take.
You are arrogant if you think you know why everyone voted the way you did. Plain and simple.
You are full of nothing but elitist dribble. Everytime you post a reply, you never have any type of intelligent argument, just a deflective type comment that proves that you have no more to offer than your President.
All you have are personal attacks. You attack people for voting the way you did, you lie and pretend you know they voted they way they did. It’s disgusting. Then you start whining and screaming that you’re a victim when you’re called on your poor behavior. Grow up. Have some personal responsibility for yourself.
This is the last reply I will entertain you with on this subject. Go back and read all of your posts, replies and comments. You are the one who acts like a victim when you claim every comment made that you do not like is a lie or a something taken out of context. You are pushing the limits when you make a direct accusation that I have lied in any of my posts. I do not whine, I make comments about facts and my personal opinions, you just happen to not agree or refuse to recognize facts when they are presented to you. That is your problem not mine.
You said people voted for Obama because they want handouts. That’s disgusting arrogance. Grow up.
Mitch McConnell vowed to make sure Obama would be a two term president! lol.
A goal to divide instead of one that would do something positive for the country. Looks like Mitch botched it. I don’t see any reason why he’ll consider doing anything positive for the next four years and this is our tax dollars at work?
sad sad sad..
I didn’t vote for Obama. He was not my choice, but on the other hand Romney was no prize either. I just kind of assessed Romney to be the lesser of the two evils we were presented with. It seems for the last two decades all presidential elections have come down to ‘Sheesh, I gotta pick one of these?’
Oh well, best of luck to Obama. I hope his administration’s economic policies start to kick in sometime during this term before I lose all my retirement.
God has spoken, stick a fork in the republicans. :D
Mainers have shown, once again, that they will not, have not and do not tolerate lies.
No…they have proved that they are ignorant!
And hundreds of people being paid to post comments that incite hate on news and social media sites get the pink slip.
So odd…I woke up this morning and I still had my guns, a cloud of gay wasn’t looming over my marriage, my kids were able to watch Sesame Street…I was so certain the world was going to end!!
Those paid inciters are called astroturfers, they have pretty much disappeared. Guess you’re right pink slips were handed out early.
I hope you’re right about he tr0lls. That would be a bonus.
Gay marriage is legal in Maine? Marijuana is legal in Colorado? Barack Obama is president again? oh my word this entire election day was a joke, a complete joke!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Zy23pvkobU
To the misguided who are becoming fewer …. that’s how our system works, it’s called Democracy and the joke is on you.
Welcome to another fours years of ineptitude gridlock and a poor economy. We have become a nation of takers not contributors. Chances are good the entitlement economy will become so entrenched that we may never escape.
President Kennedy would not be welcome in today’s Democratic Party.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Zy23pvkobU
What place would a man have in the Democratic party that said these words. (stolen from a commentator)
“Ask not what your country can do for you, Ask what you can do for your country.” ~~~JFK
Today we have half the people who won the election asking the government to solve all their ills and provide all their comforts, Make all their decisions.
The question a Democrat asks today is “What can I do for you with taxpayers dollars to assure you vote for me?”
Most of the posters here won’t understand the difference and that my friends is our problem.
How far have we fallen.
reagan would not be welcome in todays republican party– care to see how far the republicans have fallen? take a look at the 1956 republican platform eisenhower won on and then weep for the gop that has gotten hijacked by right wing crazies—–“David Stockman, President Ronald Reagan’s director of the Office of Management and Budget, explained in an op-ed piece, “Four Deformations of the Apocalypse,” exactly how the economic decisions of the GOP over the past 40 years, is destroying not just the economy and capitalism, but the America dream.
get a clue
This is NOT a racist statement
Obama won because the United States is continuing and exponentially, matriculating into a majority non white populace
HAHAHA! And how many white majority states did he win???? Romney took the south. Where are you?
Obama took all the major urban cities of the country, Obama took all the secondary cities in the country,Obama took the suburbs of the country. Obama took Colorado, about 30% minority now. Romeny appears to have lost Florida. Obama took Massachusetts, just 14 years ago the 3rd whitest state in the country. Obama took Vermont, the whitest state in the country. Obama took Vermont, the whitest state in the country. Obama took New Hampshire, Maine, the whiest states in the country.
You missed my point once again. Who took the deep south? Did you actually watch the results? And by the way: who cares what color we are? We are all Americans and once we STOP dividing ourselves by color the country moves FORWARD.
“who cares what color we are”
The city of Boston had affirmative actions clauses for hiring “minorities” for 25 years.
Today, the city of Boston want to end these affirmative action clauses for hiring.
Why? Boston’s majority populace is now minorities. Boston fears ‘whites’ will start claiming they are now the ‘minorities’ in Boston and will be eligible for the affirmative action hiring clauses.
Whats your point, i dont get it
And that is one of Boston’s “secrets” at how racist they are. My point is that someday (eons from now probably) that the human race will look at each other as fellow humans and not their skin. Maybe I have read your comment wrong?
It is a racist comment. You assume people are voting for skin color. I personally believe people voted based upon how the candidates speak about and treat them.
You want to pretend like anyone who is non-white must be awful and evil? Fine. You want to pretend that anyone with an accent is on welfare and probably here illegally? Fine. Want to pretend gays are evil predators seeking to destroy the country? Fine. Want to pretend women don’t need health care standards? Fine. But guess what, you better be ready to deal with the consequences and that was demonstrated last night, loud and clear.
I’m not happy Obama won. Though I’m sure glad Romney lost.

“This is like listening to the radio when you were 7 and your school was at the end of the closings list”
It was a loose, loose situation anyway as there was no one running on either party that was worth a damn! Our election process is controlled by the wealthy and our Government is full of liars, cheats and crooks! Honest men and women do not survive it in politics!
Obviously your team lost and that makes them honest? …. If Romney had conducted himself throughout his campaign with the same tone he did in his concession speech …. he would have had a much better chance of winning. That speech was the only time where he was honest and himself, which was too little too late.
Romney’s attack ads cost him.
maine republicans legalized fireworks
how did that go for ya last night?
We need to give the liberals their victory prize.. Lets end the Bush tax cuts today!
why not, they never did what republicans claimed they would do
Isn’t that what I said in different terms? Lets end them today.
boehnor already said no
Well Fought Democrats. I voted republican and I extend my hand to you.
Listen to the sheep bleeting in glee………………… Little do they know………………………….
……….
Happy days! The country has made a good decision in retaining a leader with principles and telling the corporate raider to kiss off. The state has also spoken very loudly to LePage and his T-boys. It looks like LePage has pissed off too many people and the rubber stampers paid for his ego trip. I hope he reads this election as just what it was: a reaction against him.
Somehow, this will be blamed on ACORN, the New Black Panthers or Satan.
Yessah
it wasn’t satan? our local pastor said it was.
Beware of false Prophets for it is their profits that they look truly after.
the country wasn’t for sale after all.
It’s my hope and wish that the results of this election will cause what the Republican Party has become to understand that the Majority of People want them to knockoff the extreme stuff and get back to doing the business of the country which means letting social issues be handled by others more qualified then themselves or be subject to the loss of your public position if you haven’t gotten that point yet.
Congratulations Big Bird!
YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who else can shoot hoops with Scottie Pippen and win an Election the same day?
Barack Obama won this election because he was the better candidate and had a better and more positive influenced Campaign. People are tired of the same Conservative negativity and hate spewed day in and day out.
….and lies. There should be a penalty for public officials that flat out lie to us. I can’t say “dirty” words on the air but lies are ok? Lying by politicians is truly obscene! People have died because of it.
It really doesn’t matter who won, either way we’re screwed. America is in decline morally, spiritually and economically.
is it painful dragging your knuckles all the time?
Glad to see that the original comment was flagged for review
LePage is next and I cannot wait.
Let’s get over it and now and let’s hold our illustrious reps and sens to do the work we have hired them to do which I must say they haven’t and I am not even handed here. The obstructionists like Mitch McConnell need to be put on notice. Behave or else. Enough already.
Now
that the people of Maine and the US have joined hands, sung Kum By Ya and
jumped into the abyss; it will be interesting to see if the country will be
better off or join Europe in financial and political ruin.
Will
we find a way to again become the hope for the world, will we slowly join Europe’s
economic failure or become equal with the third world. Time will tell.
Personally
I expect the later. I expect that taxes will go up on everyone, the elderly (and
everyone else) will get less medical care, the economy will continue in the
doldrums, our Supreme Court will get 2 or 3 more progressive judges, and our
media will continue to cover up the truth about our reelected leader.
I am
going to get a nice big Kool Aid and just ignore the ills that are coming. We
are one screwed society. The lessons learned in this election will be: “Elections
have consequences, I won, now shut up and do what I want”, and “we will
compromise and do it my way”.
It
will be an interesting couple decades.
You got the wrong tune, it ain’t Kum By Ya, it’s “Gimme Back My Bullets” which equates to OUR Vote, by the way we knew your ilk would be unable to except the vote of the majority, better rethink your party’s twisted extreme nonsense and start worrying more about the nuts and bolts stuff then social issues that you have no business sticking your nose into.
I always loved that tune. :)
mmm
Yeah, we will be so much better off being dragged down by the CWS and their hate America first hangers on.
as opposed to the” my country right or wrong” tea partiers? now where did i hear that?
You really know of Tea Party members that feel the US government is always right??
What nonsense, the Tea Party members I know feel that the US government is often wrong, just not ALWAYS wrong.
Oops, you probably don’t know ANY Tea Partyiers to talk with.
they don’t speak much, they are too busy whining about socialism while collecting their social security and medicare
Sonyou don’t know or speak with any Tea Party Members, Figures you are closed minded liberal.
Besides which, those on Social Security have had money forcibly taken from them for decades to give them that benefit. That is only Socialism to those trying to justify socialism.
europe in financial ruin? better look at most of the countries in europe — the problems in greece stem from tax breaks for the wealthy- kinda like what happened here
Greece??? Include Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Germany and England.
really? better do a little more research than parroting right wing talking points and look for the causes–
of course we have such a great record like the great depression and the bush recession which would have become the bush depression if not for Obama
Nonsense, Our financial and social predicament was predicted by FA Hayek in the 1940’s and is the fault of 100 years fo following the economic theories of Keynes.
Our demise has been a long time coming, and is the end of freedom in the world.
Acually the depression will desend upon us in the next two years……Thankfully the prez is term limited
Ask your country, what they can do for you, not what you can do for your country. My apologies to JFK, who just rolled over.
BDN, ban this guy’s IP address already
MAC address to be sure
Bill O’Reilly called it last night in the 8
O’clock hour: The change in population demographics has ushered in a
new era, in which overwhelmingly large segments of the population can be
palliated with unfulfillable promises to satiate their needs in return
for their vote, and there’s nothing thinking overseer pundits can do
about it, no matter how right they’re convinced they are. Two examples
to back my analysis: Karl Rove explained with his white board how
Obama’s urban early vote lead in Ohio would soon be overcome by late
rural conservative votes, as has always happened in the past. Fox
analysts agreed Rove’s logic was correct but the hill was too far to
climb because liberal urbanity has now tipped the scales. And this
morning, exit polls confirmed that most Obama voters, when queried as to
how they could justify their vote despite the woeful economy, still
blame Bush! So, back to my question, who reigns over this Bread And Circuses election as the baker and the clown? Hint: They’re one and the same.
Which candidate portended to keep the food stamp gravy train rolling
……. which candidate distracted us with cheap entertainment of pop
culture and even Bruce Springsteen?
Liberals evidently don’t believe
in a fiscal cliff, it’s merely another Ostrich hole. To those who ask,
Where is the money to pay for all this stuff? ….. All we are left
with is a Dude-erism, “It’s down there somewhere, let me take another
look.”
fred dobbs was a greedy paranoid delusional .. any particular reason why you picked that name from that movie?—perhaps you should do some research .. this is from the right wing american enterprise institute —http://www.forbes.com/sites/realspin/2012/09/03/yep-obamas-a-big-spender-just-like-his-predecessors/
read and lose some of your delusions
I read your link, here is part of it: ” President Obama inherited a government moving in the wrong direction
and he put his foot on the gas pedal. But he didn’t change course. His
record on spending, debt, and deficits is quite bad, but he is not a
radical departure from the American presidential ethos. In fact, he is, sadly, fairly typical. Like previous presidents,
he has enacted new federal policies at great expense to the taxpayers.
Like previous presidents, he has found it very hard to cut spending.
Like previous presidents, he has not made substantial progress on
controlling the current and future costs of our middle-class
entitlements. Like his immediate predecessor, he has dramatically
increased the size of the federal debt. Perhaps we need a president who isn’t typical in this regard? Would
Governor Romney be a new type of president, able to control spending,
reform our middle-class entitlements, and rein in the debt? If so, then
that would be change I could believe in.”
Why would you recommend that I research information supporting my own conclusions? Yet I am the deluded one… LOL!
Look forward to financial cliff, Republican filibuster in Congress, government shut-down, stock market crash, dollar crash, record unemployment even more than before, doctors shutting their offices, Jeeps made in China, Iran nukes, US soldiers either dead or coming back and going on disability cause there’s nothing else to do, Athens-like riots in the streets when the entitlement class doesn’t get it’s welfare food stamp and unemployment on schedule. These are not delusions….. they are inevitables!
You are 100% corrrect
Starting any sentence with “Bill O’Reilly” automatically disqualifies anything that follows.
I am a liberal who knows where the money is. It is in the trillions of dollars that a slight increase in taxes on the upper income earners need to pay PLUS in the loopholes which allow GE and Exxon to get away with murder.
Flag this folks. Get him out of here.
Who was it?
,,,,
America will now become a socialist country, what happened to ” What can we do for America” it now will be” What can America do for me”. God help us in the next four years.
another one using terms they dont understand — look up plutocracy to see what this country is like
This Election was RIGGED. How can 6 States give their electoral votes to a candidate when the poles were not even closed yet? CA! Took less than 2 minutes to close, count and report. does that make sense to you? NJ was given to Obama with 0% of votes reported.
uh , ok and everyone was in on the conspiracy
It’s called exit polling. This year the media was kept from releasing exit polling numbers before the polls closed, but they had it all ready to go and could tell that in those states it wouldn’t be close.
So glad the election is over, no more ads…….
The American people can now only blame themselves for what will unfold over the next four years.
as you blamed yourself for what happened under bush?
I know what happened when the Democrats took over Congress following the 2006 elections. Prior to that I had no major qualms with the general direction of the country with the exception of a growing debt problem. In any event, the Democrats will now certainly own the landscape of this country going forward for the next four years.
democrats never had a veto proof majority in fact you seem to forget about republican filibusters
My assessment of where we are now as a country . . . “we want our Obama-phones, so that we can call all of our friends and invite them to our same sex marriage, while we celebrate by smoking our medical marijuana”.
the phone giveaway started under reagan- it would be nice if the conservatives ever got a clue
that would have been quite a feat…cell phones didn’t hit mass markets until the 90’s Reagan was our of office then
Try to.understand that they are not that bright!
I’m certain that the administartion can devise a program to increase their “wattage” even tax them with the cap & trade carbon footprint scheme.
really simple fits, do a little research on when phone giveaway started–i didn’t say cell phones but thats where the whole program started—you people are so easy

Now that we are entering into the ‘milk and honey’ era, does anyone know where I have to go in order to get a new car for free? I am retired and don’t have much money so need to find that redisributed wealth the ‘annointed’ one keeps talking about…………………
well, the reason you don’t have much money is you weren’t smart enough to have a decent job or save any– your post says it all
I hope you don’t think I was serious……………… If so, you’ve made me smile for the first time today……………. Thanks……………….
Is there a list of words that triggers the “Comment awaiting approval”? I seem to get it when I have used words allowed from other posters.
Good job America….you voted for revenge….and now you have it……the bad news is.. the revenge will be levied on you in the form of pink slips.
You are kidding right? I should have voted for the guy who made his fortune buying US companies, stripping them like junk cars, and selling the parts? How would that have insured I keep my job?
Revenge? against whom? I voted my own self interest. I would have voted for a Republican had that candidate been resonable.
let me know when you get your pink slip kid
more delusional rantings– its the vulture capitalist who shipped jobs overseas
No, just a fact, that between now and end of January there will be a minimum of an additional 3 Million layoffs that have NOTHING to do with off shore manufacturing.
Won’t he feel good when government contractors lay off. thousand
yes 123,000 t Lockeed Martin alone!
yeah , we will see , like most conservatives, the truth is not in you
When reality sets in for the liberals…shall we laugh
just look in the mirror or listen to your rantings, thats laugh enough
Was that your best? well..I understand.puberty is a hard time
you seem to know, something mom and dad told you yesterday?
Not at all worried about that.
apparently you wern’t paying attention to your candidate when he said “”Vote to get revenge”.
Wow!your ignorant of many facts!
Talk about election news …. I guess we’ll be reading about Ted Nudgent soon?
Part of the reason Obama was re-elected was due to the mainstream media assisting in the cover-up of Benghazi. They failed to keep the public informed of the many differing stories being told by Obama & his administration. CBS was one that finally released an outtake from Obama’s interview on Sunday September 12, a day after the Benghazi attack. The outtake shows that Obama outright lied when he stated during the debates that he called the attack on our embassy an act of terrorism the very next day. During the 60 Minutes interview, Obama was asked if this was an act of terrorism & he responded that “We don’t know & are looking into it.” This shows that he lied during the debate & the moderator then added to his lie by stating he was telling the truth.
care to guess how many embassies were attacked and how many were killed while bush was president? heres a hint-it was a whole lot more
Really?…prove it!..come.on coffee shop.boy..lets see your proof..come on..waiting!
there were twelve terrorist attacks on U.S. diplomatic facilities abroad during George W. Bush’s tenure — the most of any president in history — and eight of those occurred while Donald Rumsfeld was in office-simple for you to research, want some instructions on how?–so loser , go back to your burger flippin and try to get your GED –and coffee shop, sorry , you’re wrong again loser,,like i’ve said before, I pay more in taxes in 1 year that you do in 5 or 10
Waiting for someone to bring up that canard again. The whole sordid affair was a result of CIA goofups. They had most of the people in the “embassy”, only 3 state department people. They blew the intelligence and were detained by Libyans so they were even later than they could have been.
I’ll tell you what makes this nation great: we who vote. I spent the past few months on the phone polling voters. By yesterday morning, I was looking forward to reaching the end of my endless lists of names. I’ll never forget that 95 year old woman who said she just got released from the hospital in the morning. She didn’t feel well enough to go out and vote. But you know what? By the afternoon, she felt she could push herself out the door and she accepted the offer of a ride to the polls. She knew her one vote was going to have an effect that might outlive her. That woman is an American hero. And so are all of you who voted. Even if your party lost, you gave the opposition a run for its money.
Republicans erred
by NOT recognizing the dumbing down of the electorate behooved Romney
choose a running mate who could draw support of one or two demographic
groups he could have been predicted to struggle with. Namely, Condi
Rice. The liberal MSM’s attempts to denigrate her (like they did
during Bush) would have merely backfired making the Republican ticket
stronger. All of our high minded talking heads were oblivious to the
now apparent fact that two rich white guys who actually WANTED people to
get jobs and work …… was doomed to failure by the Gimmee revolution. Ryan was the choice
who was supposedly going to reinforce Romney’s shift toward
conservatisim.
But…. Romney should have focused on getting the job first, THEN
appointing Ryan to some cabinet position if that would help advance the
conservative agenda.
Anybody up for forming a new Republic founded on conservative fiscal principles, hard work and self-reliance? I have had it with this country. This is not “my” country anymore and this President does not represent anything I stand for….
Who’s fault will the next four years be anyway?
Then go away. We voted and you lost. Whose fault is that? Gonna blame someone else for your cruddy candidate and your cruddy positions?
We voted and the Country lost. You can revel in the win, but harder times are coming. And with an electorate (read: you) that rewards a man for 4 years of absolutely nothing it will only get worse in 2016.
I hear Joe Biden is the front runner for President in 2016. Ahhh…now I can sleep a little easier. Crazy Uncle Joe – he’ll bring us around… You will probably be able to vote for him next week in early voting.
Don’t encourage too many people like myself to leave, you won’t have anyone left paying taxes to provide for the entitlement crowd.
The sky is falling, the sky is falling!
Overall, according to the Tax Policy Center, “of the 38 million tax units made nontaxable by the addition of tax expenditures, 44 percent are moved off the tax rolls by elderly tax benefits and another 30 percent by credits for children and the working poor.”
only 18.1 percent of American households paid neither federal income taxes nor payroll taxes in 2011, says the Tax Policy Center. Of that 18.1 percent, 10.3 percent were elderly and 6.9 percent were non-elderly households earning less than $20,000 year, which include low-income families and students. About one in 20 is non-elderly with income over $20,000.
get a clue
You.have no understanding of economics..there is a difference between income tax and taxes paid on.wealth earned…but you knew that right? You didn’t just put up something that you read….right?
sure is , bet that earned income credit you get really helps out though
I’m still waiting for alex baldwin & sean penn the leave the country as they promised if bush won a second term.
Get over it.
Nothing to get over…..just pointing out where the libs make promises they have no intention of keeping.
Who cares? They’re not elected officials. It’s really irrelevant. I don’t hold you accountable for the garbage Ann Coulter spews for example so why are you bringing up Alex Baldwin and Sean Penn? It’s because you’re a sore loser and a poor sport.
When do we start?
Good for you Mainers!! I was so happy to see Maine’s results! Obama can now continue to lead us forward..Angus King will be caucusing with the Dems and now to replace Maine’s Governor and it will be perfect!
Ya! And.when it goes.to pot when.where bankrupt i hope you get everything you voted for! hard!
Until the Republican party presents candidates who believe in women’s rights and the rights to their bodies, Democrats will rule the country. The Republican party just doesn’t get it that Obama won because of women. Every time a Republican stands before the public and claims that a pregnancy by rape is God’s wish, the party sinks a bit lower. I will vote for a Republican ONLY when a law is on the books that make it a requirement to castrate men who impregnate women against their will.
Minorities in general helped him, not just women. Given the changing demographics this ‘trend’ will continue unless the GOP wakes up and realizes they are no longer the ‘moral majority. The GOP still consists of a bunch of old, white, balding, myopic men who don’t have a clue about the outside world, let alone women’s issues. I for one I’m VERY pleased w/last nights outcome, overall!! Well worth the wait. Very proud to be a Mainer!
So what?? Really? You want someone that would go to those kinds of lengths to be deceitful to be in the Senate? No one is perfect, and there are many politicians on both sides of the political spectrum out there that should perhaps choose a different profession. But someone who would lie to those kinds of lengths to get ahead should not be in a position of power like that. I don’t think name dropping to get mentioned in an article is quite comparable to that, albeit still the wrong choice.
Evidently not enough people do research you are correct. It’s a shame because I’m sure there are numerous things they would discover that would be big eye openers.
History lesson 1955 -1995 democract controlled congress 40 years
1995- 2007 republican controlled congresss 12 years
2007- 2011 democrat controlled congress 4 years
2011- 2012 republican controlled congress 2 years
44 years verses 14 years = 76% vs 24%
Mr Stockman was “asked to resign” by the Reagan administation and authored his book from the vines that held sour grapes. From there Mr Stockman Bankrupted Collins & Aikman and was fired just before they filed for federal bankrupcy protection. Subsequently he was federally indicted for “schemes” at Collin & Aikman, but his gifted attorneys persuaded the U.S Attorney not to persue his case. *** Post intended for heyrube***
Contrary to the Romney campaign’s promises, a former economic adviser to President Ronald Reagan says that Mitt Romney’s tax plan just won’t revive the economy.
“The idea that tax reform will jump-start an economy suffering from the after-effects of a cyclical downturn is nonsense,” Bruce Bartlett wrote in a New York Times blog post on Tuesday. “There is little reason to think we will see tax reform any time soon, and even if Mr. Romney’s plan is enacted as proposed the growth effect will be small to nonexistent.”
Barlett noted that the economy continued to grow at roughly the same rate after Reagan’s own tax reform in 1986, adding that economists agree Reagan’s 1986 tax reform had little impact on economic growth. Bartlett also wrote last year that tax cuts for the wealthy and for corporations did not help stimulate the economy under President George W. Bush, and that “there is no reason to believe” that the same policies would help stimulate the economy today.
he’s one of the authors of the kemp roth tax bill– and also has a lot to say about how poorly the economy performed under bush– sorry you dont like the message but conservatives have always had problems with truth.
Mr Bartlett can blog in the NYT until his heart is content. 1986 was in Reagans second term after the economy was well turned around in his fisrt term. (By the way he never blamed Carter, non stop, during his first term). A truth that liberals have a problem with.
Another truth that liberals have a real problem with is Bush has been out of office for four years as of 01/20/09.
another truth is that the bush tax cuts for the wealthy helped tank the economy
take a look at what he says about the bush economy
how do you like what fox says about the US economy? or are they lying too?
one of the problems you have is that everything these men did or stood for at the time you would have been wildly enthusiastic.. like most conservatives– when the truth hits you, you try to find some way to deny it–
still no comment on the piece from fox?
Once agian……..Bush ISN’T the president anymore…….that is the truth that libererals cannot grasp.
no the truth conservatives can’t grasp is he was bad for the economy like most republicans and he got us into the mess that obama is trying to clean up with no help from the republicans.. these men helped put economic programs in place, that turned out bad. and at least they can admit it- unlike most conservatives– once again , is fox lying about the economy being better under democratic administrations?
No fox isn’t lying, and that’s a real pretty graph going back 111 years. Clinton’s economy was robust after the 1994 midterms. He got the memo that he was beat, and worked with the majority. Obama disregarded the memo in 2010.
oh please, the facts are there for you, you choose to ignore them. clinton didn’t get the memo to keep giving tax breaks to the wealthy
and you only mentioned clinton- what about all the others?
What you’re not looking at is who controlled congress……and how republican administrations compromised with the opposing party. Also you don’t factor into the equation that America was once the manufacturing epicenter of the world. But it’s still a pretty graph. For the purpose of your rather convenient recent historical memory , HW Bush raised taxes ultimately costing him re election, thanks for nothing mr perot.
like the republicans are compromising now? they worry more about keeping the TEMPORARY bush tax cuts for the wealthy than they do about the majority of citizens.
its your network laddie,
and how many times did Reagan raise taxes?
only 1 of many —-http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-08-16/why-reagan-raised-taxes-and-we-should-too-echoes.html
get a clue laddie, you’re never going to be wealthy if the republicans have anything to say about it
It hasn’t been for a lack of trying. EVERYTHNG (the budgets especially) the republicans have proposed has been declared “Dead on arrival” by your pal harry reid.
When Mr. Boehner assumed the speaker’s gavel…he said “The president and I have a couple things in common, we both enjoy playing golf, and we both smoke. I’d love to play round of golf with him and have some smokes, and hash a few things out’. When he invited him to do so, obama declined.
Lets talk about the others!
Dwight Eisenhower / Sam Rayburn
Richard Nixon / John McCormack/ Carl Albert
Ronald Reagan / Tip O’Neil
George HW Bush / Jim Wright/Tom Foley
Bill Clinton / Newt Gingrich
George W Bush / pelosi
All these presidents compromised with the opposition. Notice anyone missing from the list?
However, history actually shows that the U.S. economy, stock prices and corporate profits have generated stronger growth under Democratic administrations than Republican ones.According to McGraw-Hill’s.
.
) S&P Capital IQ, the S&P 500 has rallied an average of 12.1% per year since 1901 when Democrats occupy the White House, compared with just 5.1% for the GOP. Likewise, gross domestic product has increased 4.2% each year since 1949 when Democrats run the executive branch, versus 2.6% under Republicans.Even corporate profits show a disparity: S&P 500 GAAP earnings per share climbed a median of 10.5% per year since 1936 during Democratic administrations, besting an 8.9% median advance under Republicans, S&P said.Due to their “tax-and-spend” reputation, investors expect Democratic administrations to underperform Republican ones and be “poison to any portfolio,” Sam Stovall, chief equity strategist at S&P Capital IQ, wrote in a note. “History shows the opposite to be true, however.”
from fox no less- and we all know they aren’t biased

Relax people, the sky is not falling. The way I see it, Obama is a decent man with a respect and appreciation for history and a good head on his shoulders. Proof of that is he just beat the republican’s by outsmarting them. This is the guy we want outsmarting our competition and making deals on our behalf.
The main difference is Obama wants to work for all American’s, not just old white guys. Look at the supporters at Obama’s victory celebration and then look at the ones at Romney’s; that tells the whole story. Obama is using his leadership skills to get us to see that we have to make America work for all of us.
We need people of diverse backgrounds who want to contribute to their/our country. We need conservatives and liberals and everyone to have a voice, but that voice must have a wish to be inclusive. Obama said it in his victory speech, the democratic process is messy. All the divergent views when filtered by great leadership is what made America great.
Obama does not have a strategy to exclude anyone. He trusts the democratic process. Where ever we go from here will be our choice, all of us.
I have always defined conservationism as reluctance to change. Progressiveism is the desire to change. Those two forces work best when they are in balance. Just like a grandfather and a teen working out choices in life. It is about balance.
I think that the only problem we have is fear. People are naturally afraid of change for good reason sometimes, but the world is changing fast and we can’t stop it. Change has it’s own agenda and time table. I know a lot of self declared conservatives who are handicapped by fear of change. They are afraid of making a mistake and bringing hardship onto themselves. Fear keeps us in a box. It isolates us and humans don’t do well with isolation. We need community to thrive.
There is a synergistic effect that comes from community and I think we just saw that at work from the Obama campaign. I loved watching Karl Rove scratching his head trying to figure out what went wrong with his strategy. He doesn’t get it. His side lost because hope beat fear. It is as simple as that. Rove and Romney wouldn’t be caught dead talking to Obama’s people. They think they can win with money from their ivory towers.
America has a long history of hope beating fear. From the very beginning when a handful of fearless guys committed treason against the most powerful monarchy in the world to free us to our own choices. FDR said it best, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. Great American leaders have always lead with hope. The whole world looks to America to lead. They don’t care about our debt, they care about our values, our leadership and our hopes.
I think we have let fear become too big a influence in our country. We are still a great economic powerhouse and our strength is not in the dollar, it is in us. The things that need to be done, if they are done with fearlessness will keep us the worlds source of hope.
We still need conservatives and progressives to sort out the balance and hopefully we can get back to doing that with out all the fear.
Anyone interested in hearing how unhinged the Republicans are take a listen to this rant.

LMAO!
