BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police are still looking for the man who robbed the Luttrell’s Corner Mini-Mart at gunpoint on Tuesday, Sgt. Paul Edwards said Wednesday.

The suspect, who was caught on the store’s video surveillance cameras, is described as about 6 feet tall, in his 20s and wearing what appeared to be a Hannaford jacket. He flashed a black handgun when he robbed the store at about 2:10 p.m. Tuesday, said Brent Alley, a store manager who was behind the counter at the time.

The robber threw a paper bag at Alley and said, “Money in the bag,” the nearly 10-year veteran store clerk said a couple of hours after the store was hit.

Alley said he tried to remain calm and do exactly what the armed man told him to do.

“I got up off my stool and took the paper bag and put money in it,” he said.

When the man thought the paper bag was full enough, he grabbed it out of Alley’s hands and left the store, located at 554 Union St.

Police said they think the armed man got into a gray PT Cruiser-type vehicle after leaving the mini-mart, which is located at the corner of Union and Fourteenth streets. The vehicle was last seen headed west on Fourteenth. No license plate information was available, Edwards said.

Police are working with surveillance camera images taken from the mini-mart, which was closed for approximately one hour, Edwards said.

Alley said Tuesday’s robbery was the first for the store, which was established about two decades ago, but not the first for the local area. The Rite Aid pharmacy across the street has been robbed four times in the past six months, the last time on Oct. 8.

“I’m on a lucky corner,” the store clerk said jokingly.

  1. I don’t see what the big deal is… Just let the guy go.  No one got hurt, right? Just leave the poor robber alone.  He probably suffers from the disease of drug or alcohol addiction.  Let’s have some sympathy here.

  2. My guess is that he was planning on doing the rite aid but then thought better of it since someone was just caught and just did the next best thing, The small store across the street

  3. Glad that the robber decided NOT to shoot the clerk. What a scary thing to have happen to you. I live in that general neighborhood and this scares the heck out of me. I thought we got Rite Aid under control with the armed guards, but now another robbery? Man oh man.
