EASTPORT, Maine — A local sculptor said Thursday that the life-sized bronze mermaid he is crafting for installation along the town’s harbor walk remains a work in progress but should be completed soon.

Richard Klyver has been busy at his Eastport studio, casting the last of the pieces required to assemble the bronze beauty. Klyver said an installation date has yet to be determined, as a natural stone base will need to be fabricated before placement of the statue along Eastport’s waterfront walkway.

“I’m hoping now it will be early June,” he said.

  1. I like that the lede mentions it’s going to be “life-sized”. I would hate to think it was scaled inappropriately vs. real mermaids.

(Yeah, I know they presumably mean the upper half will be person-sized and the lower half scaled accordingly, but still. :)
