ORONO, Maine — Sunbury Medical Associates has closed its facilities in Hampden and Orono and moved the medical providers to other offices.
“We moved our practice that was in the Hampden [Family Medicine] building five miles down the road to a brand new facility” in Winterport, Sunbury Medical CEO David Savell said Tuesday afternoon.
Orono Family Medicine patients were transferred to Sunbury’s Bangor location, 133 Corporate Drive, as of Monday. Hampden Family Medicine moved Nov. 12.
The facilities had one medical practitioner each, according to Savell. Those practitioners are now serving their patients in the new locations.
Savell said the moves make financial sense for Sunbury, and that its medical providers would be able to see more patients in their new facilities.
“In order to make it more economical, we did all the moving in one big pass,” Savell said.
Sunbury Medical also plans to open a new walk-in clinic at its Bangor location on Nov. 26, according to Savell. The medical provider also has offices in Brewer, Corinth and Hermon.

Wow…. way to spin this one. Sunbury has lost countless providers (I think 3-4 in Winterport and about 7 in Hampden in the last few years or so), closed 4 offices that I can think of, still is not on electronic medical records despite the ad above stating “modern medicine”. After my 3rd visit with a third newly out of school young person and being told I had no choice and had to go to there Physical Therapy I was done. Buildings were old and not up to date. All under Mr. Savells leadership…well done.
