BANGOR, Maine — A local man who allegedly created a brief standoff with police Oct. 26 on Dirigo Drive was indicted Wednesday by the Penobscot County grand jury on charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence assault.
Jared Ross, 29, of Bangor remained Wednesday at the Penobscot County Jail unable to make the $10,000 cash bail set at his first court appearance Oct. 29.
He was arrested Oct. 26 by members of the Bangor Police Department’s Special Response Team after he allegedly brandished a shotgun — striking his girlfriend’s mother on the head — and threatened to shoot himself.
Ross’ girlfriend, her mother, and his 11-month-old child were all present in the house when the incident occurred, according to a previously published report. The infant was sleeping on the second floor.
The two women reportedly left the home without the infant and called police from a store at the intersection of Blue Hill East and Finson roads.
Police called in the Special Response Team and the department’s robot, as well as negotiators in an attempt to make contact with Ross inside the residence.
After making several attempts to communicate with Ross, police sent in the robotic unit, which is equipped with a camera, to make sure the first floor was clear. The Special Response Team followed and found Ross on the second floor. Ross surrendered to police without incident and was taken into custody.
The older of the two women received treatment for a head laceration from Bangor paramedics and was transported to a local hospital, treated and released.
If convicted, he faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000 on the aggravated assault charge alone.

Low-income housing in Bangor known for years for trouble. Not with all the residents, of course, but there are many.
I’m so happy that neck tattoo’s girlfriend has his child. Heartwarming really. Love is nice. I suppose we are paying for… oh bother. Now, did he hit his mother-in-law with the shotgun while brandishing it, or did he give her the lacerations some other way. The story is worded awkwardly.
But no matter, I’m glad to know there are still good people in the world.. Love conquers all. Nice.
