BANGOR, Maine — A transient has been arrested and charged in connection with the robbery of the Walgreens pharmacy at 706 Broadway on Tuesday afternoon.

The pharmacy was robbed at about 2:30 p.m. and Bangor police had a suspect — Kevin Gray, 30 — in custody within a half hour, according to police Sgt. Paul Edwards.

Edwards said Gray has been charged with felony robbery and is being held at the Penobscot County Jail.

Patrol officers, detectives and the K-9 unit from the Bangor Police Department were at the scene shortly after the call came in and a man fitting the robber’s description was apprehended at 2:52 p.m. near Falvey Street, Edwards said.

A BDN photographer on the scene said the suspect — a white man about 5 feet, 7 inches tall with a goatee and wearing black cargo pants and a long-sleeved dark gray T-shirt — was seen headed down Husson Avenue and through Bradford Commons.

Gray was spotted running toward an officer who was stationed on Falvey Street. He was apprehended by police and handcuffed.

Gray was carrying a white Walgreens bag with at least two big pill bottles and some other merchandise that resembled candy bars or Slim Jim snacks.

      1. Looks like somebody is posting garbage without doing their research. Bangor has more sex offenders than any other city in Maine and Bangor has more Methodone clinics, too, thanks to Bangor’s incompetent city council.

        1. You forgot the hopeless house that has folks shipped here right out of prison from all over the country I am sure that adds to our problems as well.

          1. That’s right. They house sex offenders, too. There are rooming houses in Bangor that cater to sex offenders, located right in the middle of neighborhoods. Since Bangor’s city council refused to pass an ordinance preventing convicted child rapists from living where children congregate, the monsters can live anywhere in Bangor, including right next to schools, parks, daycare centers, the city pool, etc.

          2. Exactly. Bob Carlson was part of that fiasco (Hope House) also. I really think the PD or the FBI needs to look into everything that man had dealings with. He is and was part of the downfall that the City of Bangor has taken. People like Shawn Yardley who openly supported anything this man wanted, should figure out that this man was all about brining the drug addicts here and the pedophiles for his own financial gain and also to feel that he was “helping”.

        2. The methadone clinics were supposed to give all the little junkies their fix so they didn’t have to commit such robbery. Geez, I wonder what went wrong. I’m with ya neighbor.

    1. Eehhh yeaaah I think people would want him to actually get _better_….so that option is off the table.

  1. Geez, he just wanted to get on the front page of the BDN! They could have at least waited till he had a smile on his face…

  2. Great job Bangor Pd for keeping the streets safe. Next time smile at the camera pretty boy, make your family proud!

  3. You know if this State would out law the dispensing of oxycodone all these ************* would move to another State.

    1. Well, sure. On the other hand, if the state banned gasoline we’d have a lot fewer car crashes, too, but that’s not a good idea either.

    2. You realize Oxycodone is an actual prescription medication that helps people, right? Yes people abuse the h–l out of it…but its not like the pharmacies are handing out crack.

      1. Ah, that makes sense> Should have been faster leaving the scene. He could have gotten it done before he was caught. lol

        1. He was trying to be fast, but must have gotten held up picking out “other merchandise that resembled candy bars or Slim Jim snacks.”

  4. I was raised in Bangor when I95 was built. We hated it except for rolling start drag races. Now, I like I95 because I can cruise thru the city in a blink. I avoid all the b.s. that you folks have to put up with. Im sorry the city has fallen into the hell of drugs, pervs, and law breakers. Im told the City Councilors sit at meetings wearing casual clothes and even eating sandwiches. Maybe they need to become less casual and more professional and thoughtful in order to save the city.

    1. Exactly.. as I posted on here the police department is running with huge shortages and no contract.

  5. There MUST be a mistake! i know this fine young man, he was just turning his life around and had turned to Jesus. Let him go to continue his climb to become the outstanding citize he appears to be.n

  6. I bet if we open another 3 methadone clinics in town the crime would go down. Isn’t that what we were sold with Acadia 12 years ago? This is a sad situation for the city of Bangor. I feel for the employees that had to have their secure world interrupted by such trash. Good job Bangor PD, get used to it.

  7. The rate of these crimes has skyrocketed. It seems like most drug stores in the area are now robbed about once a month. I wouldn’t ever let one of my family members work at a pharmacy these days. Sad really.

  8. People are to quick to judge places like the hope house and Acadia . It’s not the drugs that is the real problem because we all have choices in our lives. It is the person who choses to abuse these prescription drugs. I think these places save lives of people who have made bad choices and want to be a better person so I wouldnt judge to quickly.

  9. Gimme all the oxy’s, a Baby Ruth, and a couple of Slim Jims. And don’t try anything stupid! Obviously he’s only into the hard drugs because he didn’t grab a bag of chips. Oh, Did he forget the Huggies?

    1. No weapon?
I would at least have to see a weapon and know that they didn’t just have a finger in their pocket.
This punk was a regular at the Hannaford parking lot across the road, trying to bum money from people.

  10. Wow people are quick to judge the methadone clinics not everyone that goes there are scum bags I know some great people that go there and they have a house over their head a new car and are enrolled in college fulfilling their dreams now if they methadone clinics weren’t here these people would still be on the streets doing the bad stuff but yet on the other side there are people that go there for the wrong reasons so unless you have walked down that path you will never realize what opiate addiction is and how bad it is to fight and how good the methadone clinics help you fight the opiate addiction. The people doing robberies aren’t in the methadone clinics so check your facts before you judge,,

  11. Everyone is upset about this… How about some pressure is placed on the new city council to actually do something. Ask them why the Police Department is 13 officers short and could actually use more than that. They are also working without a contract right now.. No one likes a “police state” but some forget that everyday calls of service take up alot of time. Wake up Bangor
