A Massachusetts school worker was arrested and charged in connection with the solicitation of sexually explicit material over the Internet from a 15-year-old girl who lives in Cumberland County, authorities said.

Steven Orloff, 47, of Framingham, Mass., was arraigned Wednesday in Framingham District Court on charges of distribution of obscene matter and posing or exhibiting a child in the nude.

He was held on $20,000 cash bail with conditions, including he commit no new crimes, not use the Internet, stay away from Stoneham Public Schools (where he works in the central office), move out of his family home, have no contact with children under 18 and surrender his passport.

He is scheduled for a probable cause hearing on Jan. 14.

Investigators from Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office were alerted in July to an incident where a 15-year-old girl from that county had been corresponding online with a person whom she believed was of similar age, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Craig Smith wrote in a press release Thursday.

Orloff had told the girl he was a 14-year-old boy and they exchanged photos. Orloff didn’t send a photo of himself. He and the girl continued to chat online and the girl sent him explicit photos of herself.

Once Orloff’s true identity was discovered, Maine authorities contacted the Framingham, Mass., Police Department to assist with the investigation.

Orloff was placed on administrative leave from his job. He had no direct contact with students in that position.

The case remains under investigation.

  1. Parents need to step up and start doing everything they can to provide their kids with the knowledge and morals that they should have. People out there are sick and frankly, parents should be telling their children about the dangers, be honest and graphic with the kids as soon as they start using the internet on their own. The truth, though pretty scary, is the only thing that will work.

  2. even if he was actually a 14 year old boy, the girl was breaking the law sending picture of herself to him since she is a minor.

    1. She may be an immature teen and dumb enough to do this. I’m sure she wasn’t thinking of the consequences….HE however…is a sicko freak of nature!!! Pedophiles need to be locked away for life…first offense!!!

    2. Yeah, why doesn’t she get charged with sending out pictures of a minor? I have heard of a case where a 15 year did get charged for sending out explicit pictures of herself.

  3. No excuse for what he did. I agree his ilk should be removed from the streets permanently. I also feel children should not have portable access to internet/email. A cell or trac phone that is ONLY a phone for emergencies, maybe, but how do parents expect to monitor what their kids are doing when they’re walking around with a smart phone. My kids got awfully mad at me for peeking over their shoulders when they were on the family computer in the living room, and checking the history. I didn’t care. I’m their mother not their buddy.

  4. Sicko freak..Social Worker ARE you kiddin..Public Trust?? Give em a DOUBLE LIFE sentence..IM 47 years old..would never think of doin something like that..over 18 yrs of age only fer me plus a day :)

    1. And that is a good thing. The internet is like flypaper catching flies. Lock them away forever once caught.
