ELLSWORTH, Maine — A Franklin woman was charged with theft Monday after being caught on video camera stealing a tip jar from Pat’s Pizza on High Street, police said Wednesday.
Christine Boyd-Waxer, 45, of Franklin was summoned on a charge of Class E theft on Monday, according to Lt. Harold Page of the Ellsworth Police Department.
Page said Boyd-Waxer, along with her two children, went into the take-out side at Pat’s Pizza around 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30. The woman ordered some pizza and sat down with her children to eat.
“She sat there and ate, then turned around, grabbed the tip jar and walked out,” Page said. According to police, the tip jar had about $25 cash inside.
Reviews of security video footage — as well as the evidence of Boyd-Waxer’s presence, thanks to the woman using her credit card to pay for the food — put the Franklin woman in the hot seat, Page said.
Page said by the time Boyd-Waxer was charged Monday, the tip money was already spent. He was unsure whether the tip jar was returned to Pat’s.
Theft is a class E crime, punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. Boyd-Waxer is scheduled to appear in Ellsworth District Court on March 19.
