DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — The festival voted best in New England in an online poll is returning in June.

The fourth annual Maine Whoopie Pie Festival will be held on Saturday, June 22, and will again include many vendors and attractions, but its focus will be on the official state treat — the whoopie pie.

Last year’s festival was voted Best New England Festival or Event by New England Travel Readers. The results were released on March 28.

“We are absolutely thrilled by this recognition,” said Patrick Myers, coordinator of the Maine Whoopie Pie Festival. “Just to be nominated was a great honor and then to see the outpouring of support from thousands and thousands of whoopie pie patriots around the world was inspiring.”

Myers said last year’s festival brought in a crowd of 5,000 to downtown Dover-Foxcroft and that he hopes to match or beat that number.

This year’s event will again have many whoopie pie makers handing out samples. Contests, live music and other vendors will also be on hand.

“The whole downtown is filled with crafters, artisans and food,” said Myers. “This year, we’ll have live music for the whole day.”

Steve Jones of Portland and the Unified String Theory will play music among others to be named, he said.

Myers said eight whoopie pie vendors are confirmed for the festival and more could be added: Governor’s Restaurant, LaBree’s Bakery of Old Town, The Groovy Moose Bakery of Dover-Foxcroft, Cookie Nook Bakery of Ellsworth, Maine Originals Inc. of Springvale, Al’s Pizza of Skowhegan, 3Ds Baking Company of Southwest Harbor and Grant’s Bakery of Lewiston.

The local YMCA will host the Earn Your Whoopie Pie 3K race and the festival will feature the Amazing Whoopie Pie Race scavenger hunt once again.

“It’s a great festival for the community and for the state,” said Myers. “It’s a chance for us to celebrate Maine’s official state treat. It’s the sweetest day in Maine.”

Myers said all proceeds from the festival go toward Center Theatre for the Performing Arts of Dover-Foxcroft. For updates, visit
