BREWER, Maine — The Brewer Water Department has posted a boil water order for customers between Arlington Heights and the Eddington town line, City Manager Stephen Bost said Friday.

The order is due to a water line leak in that area that water district and public works employees are trying to locate — a job complicated by the line’s age and by several layers of asphalt on top of it, Bost said.

“We’ll work at it until it’s repaired,” he said.

He said residents in the affected area should boil water until further notice.

According to the order, residents should boil water for at least one minute before drinking, making ice cubes, washing foods, brushing teeth and any other activity involving the consumption of water.

Assistant City Manager Andrew Varisco said that residents of the affected area have been notified of the order and that updates will be posted on the city’s website, located at www.brewermaine.gov, as well as on its Facebook page.
