PORTLAND, Maine — A local motorcyclist died early Sunday morning after he failed to negotiate a curve on Ocean Avenue and went off the road and crashed, Portland police Sgt. Troy Bowden said in a press release.

The 27-year-old man “was traveling east on Ocean Avenue near Wellwood Road, when [he] failed to negotiate the curve and left the roadway,” the sergeant said.

The crash occurred around 3:30 a.m. The name of the operator, who was not wearing a helmet, is not being released until his family has been notified, the press release said.

A Portland officer said Sunday afternoon that she expected that task to be completed sometime Sunday.

“The cause of the crash is currently under investigation,” Bowden said.

Those with information about the fatal crash can call the Portland Police Department’s traffic division at 874-8532.
