BREWER, Maine — A local man is facing multiple charges after police say he assaulted his girlfriend and threatened the woman with a knife Tuesday night.

Edward Cote, 29, is accused of domestic violence assault, aggravated assault, domestic violence criminal threatening and criminal mischief, Brewer police Capt. Chris Martin said.

Police were sent to a Brewer residence shortly before midnight when it was reported the couple had been arguing, according to Martin.

Cote had threatened to stab the woman with a kitchen knife, pushed her to the ground injuring her ankle, and also destroyed some of her belongings, according to Martin.

Cote was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail, Martin said. He remained in jail Wednesday morning.
