BANGOR, Maine — A 43-year-old local man is facing a charge after an assault on a woman Sunday afternoon, police said.
Vincent Mullens had wandered into a birthday party the woman was throwing in the recreation area of Bradford Commons, Bangor police Lt. Paul Edwards said.
Citing her concerns for children at the gathering and the size of Mullens, the woman told Mullens it was a private function and to leave, Edwards said. Mullens and the victim do not know each other, he said.
The lieutenant said Mullens was acting odd, and asked the woman to use the bathroom despite multiple requests to leave.
“He told her if he didn’t go to the bathroom he was going to pee on the floor,” Edwards said.
Eventually, Mullens grabbed the woman by the throat and squeezed her neck, the lieutenant said, and he went through and used the bathroom.
Police were called and Mullens was charged with assault but not arrested, Edwards said. He was transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center for a medical evaluation.
