ETNA, Maine — Police have arrested an Etna man in connection with the s hooting of a dog last week.

Donald Pottle, 54, allegedly shot an English bulldog that had wandered off its owner’s property on Dec. 10, according to Chief Deputy Troy Morton of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

Multiple investigative leads led police to identify Pottle as the possible shooter, Morton said. He was spotted during a traffic stop in Dixmont on Friday.

Deputy Noel Santiago arrested Pottle without incident and charged him with operating under the influence, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and animal cruelty.

The dog is recovering from its injuries and the incident remains under investigation, Morton said.

Pottle is being held at the Penobscot County Jail.
