PALERMO, Maine — A local man who allegedly drove into a ditch twice this weekend — the second time moments after another driver hauled him out of it in the first place — was arrested for operating under the influence.

James A. Poulin, 45, of Palermo apparently had gotten stuck on the side of Leeman Arm Road at about 12:30 p.m. Saturday, when a woman working for a car repossession firm came upon him, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office.

“She helped him get his [truck] back on the road,” Trafton said Tuesday morning. “He got behind the wheel and drove off the road again. She called in the OUI.”

Poulin, who had been driving a Toyota pickup truck, was arrested at the scene by Deputy Jordan Tozier. He was taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast to be booked.

A jail official said Poulin was released the following day after posting $200 cash bail.
