BANGOR, Maine — A local man is facing an assault charge after he apparently punched a medical care provider at Acadia Hospital last week, police said.

Officers went to the Stillwater Avenue facility on Jan. 13 when it was reported Alexander Meserve, 20, had assaulted a worker, Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey said.

The victim and a witness had told Officer Joseph Orcutt that Meserve had punched the man while he was sitting in a chair, the sergeant said.

The unprovoked assault knocked the man to the ground, according to Rumsey. He was punched in the left ear.

Meserve was placed under arrest and charged with assault on an emergency medical care provider, a Class C felony.
