BANGOR, Maine — A man whose family reported him missing Tuesday was found dead Tuesday evening in a wooded area, according to a release from Bangor police Sgt. Cathy Rumsey.
John H. Eaton Jr., 51, a resident of Husson Avenue, was found at around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday after a Bangor Gardens resident reported finding a deceased male in the woods between Knox Avenue and the Bradford Commons apartment complex, according to a release from the Bangor PD.
Police identified the body as Eaton’s and have notified his family.
Rumsey said the witness recalled seeing a man fitting Eaton’s description after police had released information regarding his disappearance on Tuesday afternoon. The witness followed some footprints into the trees and located Eaton’s body.
Police arrived shortly after and were able to determine the dead man was Eaton.
Eaton was last seen by his family on Sunday and was reported missing on Tuesday, Bangor police Sgt. Catherine Rumsey said Tuesday.
Eaton’s employer reported that Eaton had not shown up for work for two days, and his family said it wasn’t usual behavior for Eaton.
Rumsey said that a city police officer reported seeing Eaton about 10:30 a.m. Monday on Brewster Street and that Eaton appeared to be all right at that time.
A cause of death has not been determined. The case is still under investigation and the Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to examine Eaton’s body Wednesday, according to the release.
