BANGOR, Maine — Four men involved in separate crime sprees last fall were indicted Wednesday by the Penobscot County grand jury.

Chester F. Birmingham, 36, of Patten and Donald A. Getchell Jr., 39, of Greenbush were indicted in connection with the Sept. 8 Glenburn convenience store robbery and the Sept. 9 robbery of an Orrington woman at knifepoint.

Birmingham and Getchell each were indicted on three counts of robbery and one count each of burglary and conspiracy to commit robbery. Getchell also was indicted on one count of violation of condition of release.

A third man, Benjamin J. Sprague, 30, a Bangor-area transient, waived indictment and pleaded guilty to robbery earlier this month, according to the Penobscot County District Attorney’s Office. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison with all but four suspended and four years of probation.

Sprague is not the Bangor City Council member with the same name.

In a separate case, Eugene L. Horn, 38, of Milo and Paul E. St. Onge, 42, of Hudson were indicted on multiple counts some of which are related to the September theft of televisions and stereos from 24 recreational vehicles parked at Harvey RV’s in Glenburn.

Horn was indicted on five counts of receiving stolen property, five counts of burglary, seven counts of theft by unauthorized taking, two counts of aggravated criminal mischief and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

St. Onge was indicted on four counts of burglary, four counts of theft by unauthorized taking, aggravated criminal mischief, four counts of receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person.

The grand jury’s December session was canceled after there wasn’t a quorum.
