BREWER, Maine — A 74-year-old Bangor man heading to St. Teresa’s Catholic Church on South Main Street early Sunday evening was hit by a tractor-trailer heading north, Brewer police Cpl. Paul Gauvin said from the scene.
“We had a male subject that was walking across the street and hit,” the corporal said at about 9 p.m.
The injured Bangor man was not identified. He had visible injuries to his head, knee and elbow.
“He was unconscious but breathing and he had a pulse,” Gauvin said, as an accident reconstruction team made up of personnel from the Maine State Police and Old Town Police Department investigated the crash scene.
Police got the call for help at about 5:30 p.m. and found the churchgoer and the undamaged empty rig stopped in the area in front of St. Teresa’s. The injured man was put into an ambulance and taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center.
His condition was not available Sunday night, Gauvin said.
