THOMASTON, Maine — A power outage closed six schools in Regional School Unit 13 on Thursday.
The cause of the outage was not immediately available but RSU 13 issued a notice that Oceanside High School West, Lura Libby School and Thomaston Grammar School in Thomaston; the Gilford Butler School in South Thomaston, the St. George School, and the Cushing Community School were closed.
Power was reported restored in parts of South Thomaston and Thomaston by 6:30 a.m. The cancellation of school was announced before power was restored.
At the peak early Thursday, about 5,700 customers in those communities were without power.
