Big East All-Star games set Saturday

The Big East Senior All-Star games will be held on Saturday at Old Town High School.

The girls game will begin at 1 p.m. and the boys game at 3 p.m.

An award ceremony to honor players, coaches and teams will be held after the girls game.

The admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Tigers’ shortstop Iglesias out about a week

Detroit Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias will be sidelined for about a week because of shin splints, reported Friday.

Iglesias has been bothered throughout his career by the problem, which is technically stress reactions in both shins, and the problem flared up again this week.

The Tigers hope to reduce the inflammation and curtail any further problems by holding him out of action for a while. The team also wants to find a long-term solution for the problem.

“It’s a stress reaction of the shins, left and right, probably from moving on the different surfaces,” head athletic trainer Kevin Rand said Friday morning, according to “The guy works out all winter and then comes onto the softer ground. And we just want to nip it in the bud. We don’t want it to become an issue.”

Celtics’ Wallace likely out for season

Boston Celtics forward Gerald Wallace is likely to miss the rest of the season because of ankle and knee injuries, multiple media outlets reported Friday.

Celtics coach Brad Stevens said Wallace has been playing with bone spurs in his ankle and also has a torn meniscus in his knee.

The ankle has been an issue for some time, but the knee injury could require season-ending surgery, according to the Boston Herald.

Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said Wallace is “done for the year,” according to NESN.

Wallace, 31, is averaging 5.1 points, 3.7 rebounds and 24.4 minutes this season.

Florida Atlantic fires coach Jarvis

Florida Atlantic fired men’s basketball coach Mike Jarvis on Thursday, multiple media outlets reported Friday.

Jarvis, 68, was in his sixth season as the Owls head coach and had one year remaining on his contract.

Florida Atlantic blew a 16-point lead in a loss to Tulane on Wednesday. That was the Owls’ fourth straight loss and dropped their record to 10-19 overall and 5-9 in Conference USA with two regular-season games remaining.

Jarvis had a 77-109 record at Florida Atlantic.

Ex-Viking Henderson faces several charges

Former Minnesota Vikings linebacker Erin Henderson faces four misdemeanor charges stemming from his Nov. 19 arrest for suspicion of DUI, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported.

Henderson was released by the Vikings earlier this month following a second DUI-related arrest in January.

Henderson faces two counts of fourth-degree driving while impaired, one count of careless driving and one count of possessing more than 1.4 grams of marijuana in a motor vehicle. The charges carry a sentence of up to 90 days and/or a fine of up to $1,000.

The 27-year-old also faces the following charges: second- and third-degree DWI, marijuana and paraphernalia possession and a violation of a special condition on his driver’s license after being arrested on Jan. 1.

Ravens, Pitta reach five-year deal

Tight end Dennis Pitta and the Baltimore Ravens reached a five-year contract agreement Friday.

The Baltimore Sun first reported the agreement, which is expected to be worth $32 million-$34 million including bonuses.

Pitta was a priority for the Ravens entering free agency March 11 with the possibility of using the franchise tag to retain him looming as a last resort.
