STOCKTON SPRINGS, Maine — A male body found in the Penobscot River on Sunday morning has been taken to the Maine medical examiner’s office for identification.

The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release Sunday saying that a resident who lives along the river in Stockton Springs spotted what appeared to be a body in the river at about 11 a.m.

A deputy went to the scene and confirmed that it was a body. The Stockton Springs Fire Department was contacted, and it sent out a boat to retrieve the body. The victim was a male, and there were no signs of foul play, according to the sheriff’s office.

A local funeral home took the body to the medical examiner’s office.
