BANGOR, Maine — A rear-end collision on the Interstate 95 bridge spanning the Kenduskeag Stream hindered traffic early Monday afternoon, state police said.
Officers were tending to a broken-down vehicle along the southbound side’s breakdown lane when Scott Roberts, 35, of Glenburn rear-ended a vehicle driven by Mark Nickerson, 59, of Unity, according to Trooper Adam Gould.
“That’s the worst spot you can have a traffic hazard,” Gould said of the bridge.
Gould and two other cruisers were slowing down traffic and attempting to get the disabled vehicle, which was not involved in the collision, off the bridge, at the time of the accident.
Neither Roberts nor Nickerson, a retired state trooper, were injured while Roberts’ vehicle was towed from the scene, Gould said.
Nickerson’s vehicle sustained rear damage.
The accident occurred shortly after noon and interstate traffic was reduced to one lane.
