BANGOR, Maine — A Richmond man was sentenced to time served and three years of supervised release Thursday on a copper theft charge, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

Derek Less, 26, was sentenced in U.S. District Court to six months of community confinement in addition to the supervised release.

Less was also ordered to pay $2,590.30 in restitution. He has been detained since his arrest last November.

Less had stolen more than 400 pounds of copper wire and pipe fittings from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in July and August of 2012.

He had subsequently sold them to support his drug addiction.
