ST. FRANCIS, Maine — A local man was pulled from his burning car after rolling it over on Route 162 late Thursday night, according to information released Friday afternoon by the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office.
Corey Ouellette, 37, reportedly was traveling at a high rate of speed on the section of Route 162 also known as St. Francis’ Main Street in his Chevrolet Impala at 10 p.m., according to information released by Chief Deputy Sheriff Darrell Crandall.
Ouellette apparently lost control of the car and it rolled over, ultimately catching on fire.
Residents helped Ouellette get out of his vehicle and he was taken by ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent.
He later was transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with injuries that are not considered life-threatening, according to Crandall, who said Ouellette was alone in the car.
His condition was not known as of late Friday.
Crandall said excessive speed was a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation with the assistance of a Maine State Police accident reconstructionist.
The vehicle was declared a total loss.
