BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Symphony Orchestra has announced that music director and conductor Lucas Richman will make Bangor his permanent residence. Richman plans to move to Bangor from Knoxville, Tennessee on June 1 with his wife Deborah and son Max. The move makes him the first local resident to direct and conduct the BSO in over 50 years.

Richman was named music director and conductor of the BSO on June 24, 2010 after guest-conducting the orchestra in 2009. He previously served as the assistant and resident conductor for the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the assistant conductor for the Pacific Symphony Orchestra. He has also guest-conducted the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Baltimore Symphony and numerous international orchestras.

Richman has collaborated with several film composers. He recorded scores for “As Good As It Gets,” “Face/Off,” “Se7en,” “Breakdown,” “The Manchurian Candidate,” “Kit Kittredge: An American Girl” and Academy Award-nominee “The Village.” Commercial artists, including James Taylor, Michael Jackson and Pat Boone, have enlisted Richman as a conductor.
