BANGOR, Maine — The new Chipotle Mexican Grill is being built on Stillwater Avenue near Bangor Mall Cinemas 10, the site’s developer confirmed Friday.

Carol Epstein, a partner in ERG Realty, LLC, which owns the property that includes the theater and its surrounding land, said Friday Chipotle would be moving into a 2,200-square-foot building at 569 Stillwater Ave.

A Chipotle spokesman confirmed Thursday night the chain was planning to open up shop in Bangor in early 2015 but didn’t specify where.

Epstein said she suspects Chipotle could open sooner than early 2015, as ERG expects to hand the property over in the fall.

“We’re obviously thrilled to have Chipotle coming in,” Epstein said.

Founded in 1993 by Steve Ellis, who is the corporation’s chairman and chief executive officer, Chipotle specializes in burritos, tacos, burrito bowls and salads made from fresh, high-quality raw ingredients, according to the company’s website.

Epstein said a second building, being 6,000 square feet, will be built on the site as well. That will be home to a yet-to-be announced retail store. That building has a later projected completion date.

ERG says crews will begin erecting the steel structure for Chipotle by the middle of June.
