LOWER BEAN POND, T2 R11 WELS, Maine — The body of a Hampden man who went missing while alone on a fishing trip was found Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release from the Maine Warden Service.

Roland Mayhew, 60, had been staying at the Big Eddy Campground, located on the West Branch of the Penobscot River, but did not make contact with his wife as planned Wednesday morning, according to Cpl. John MacDonald of the warden service.

An autopsy will be conducted at the state medical examiner’s office in Augusta, MacDonald stated, and the incident remains under investigation.

The Hampden Police Department assisted in the investigation.
