RANGELEY PLANTATION, Maine — A West Gardiner man escaped injury Sunday after he apparently swerved to avoid a moose and lost control of his vehicle, police said.

Nickolas Clements was heading southbound on Bemis Road just before 6 p.m. when he came upon a moose, according to Franklin County Sheriff Scott Nichols.

Clements subsequently lost control of his vehicle and it rolled over and landed on its roof, according to Nichols.

Clements was treated for scrapes and abrasions at the scene but did not require a trip to the hospital, according to Nichols.

The vehicle was totaled in the accident, the sheriff said.
