Imagine having the keys to Stonewall Kitchen to create any recipe you desire. Five Maine food trucks will have that opportunity when they participate in the York specialty food company’s first Battle of the Food Trucks planned for Aug. 2.

Popular Portland mobile eateries — Mainely Burgers, Urban Sugar Mobile Cafe, Fishin’ Ships, Wicked Good Street Kitchen and C.N. Shawarma Arabian BBQ on Wheels — are creating customized menus using Stonewall Kitchen’s spreads, sauces and jams in this street eats throwdown. Expect small bites augmented with specialty finishes.

“Our entire menu will be Stonewall Kitchen products. We are using aioli for our burgers and

salsa; my favorite is pairing our hand-cut fries with a really really good sauce,” Jack Barber, owner of Mainely Burgers, said.

He welcomes the chance to bring his burgers up an octave with gourmet touches.

In preparing for the mobile mashup, Barber is experimenting with Stonewall Kitchen’s maple bacon onion jam on his best-selling burger. He is also dabbling with maple bacon aioli, truffle ketchup and the popular mango salsa.

“This a chance to see if there is market for aiolis and fries,” he said.

If the creations he tests are well-received, Mainely Burgers may switch from vinegar and ketchup to Stonewall dipping sauces for its hand-cut spuds.

“We are really excited and looking forward to see what the other food trucks throw down. It will be really cool. It’s a huge opportunity for all of us to be associated with Stonewall Kitchen,” he said.

And a smart move for the jam giant to get in on the food truck craze.

“Food trucks are fun, innovative and creative, like us,” Janine Somers, director of marketing for Stonewall Kitchen, said. “Plus, we are just a bunch of foodies looking for another excuse to cook, eat and have a good time.”

Participants will vote for the best Stonewall-style bite and a winner will be announced.

Further incentive, there will be giveaways and a raffle featuring a large basket filled with new products from Stonewall Kitchen.
