PORTLAND, Maine — Many people with email addresses at FairPoint Communications’ domain fairpoint.net have not received messages for several days, a problem a company official said is still under investigation.

FairPoint spokeswoman Angelynne Amores Beaudry said the company put additional servers online to handle emails for customers at the fairpoint.net domain. She said the cause of the problem has not been identified.

On the company’s Facebook page, users have complained the delay has lasted roughly three to four days. The Hudson, New York newspaper the Register-Star reported several fairpoint.net email users in that area said the problems began as early as Sunday.

Beaudry emphasized the problem is not with all email service to FairPoint customers but it is for those with email addresses at fairpoint.net. She did not have an estimate for how many customers or areas are affected by the outage.
