BANGOR, Maine — The Whistling Pig Smokehouse, a Bangor barbecue eatery that opened less than a year ago on Main Street, has closed.

The message “It’s with a heavy heart that we have to announce The Whistling Pig will be closing its doors,” was posted to its Facebook page Thursday. The doors were locked on Friday.

Chris Jones, owner of Miguel’s Mexican Restaurant on Hogan Road, opened Whistling Pig in October 2013, serving up a blend of Memphis, Texas, Kansas City, Carolina and other styles of barbecue at 735 Main St.

Whistling Pig joins a list of other eateries that have failed to survive in that location.

The Main Street building has housed an array of restaurants over the past 30 years, including Seguino’s, Guinness & Porcelli’s, Perrihouse, and, prior to Whistling Pig, the Market Bistro, which closed in 2011.

Jones was not immediately available for comment Friday.
