ROCKLAND, Maine — The demolition of the 21 Winter St. building — where a new Center for Maine Contemporary Art will be located — has been delayed.
The arts center, based in Rockport, issued a news release Friday afternoon stating that the delay was the result of needing to coordinate the schedule of contractors.
Demolition was scheduled to begin Monday. A new date for the work has not been set.
The $2.5 million project received the Rockland Planning Board approval on April 1. The project calls for an 8,200-square-foot building with a 2,200-square-feet glass-enclosed courtyard.
Construction is expected to take up to 16 months once the foundation is completed. The grand opening is scheduled for spring 2016.
