Jaguars’ Lewis out 6-8 weeks

Jacksonville Jaguars tight end Marcedes Lewis will miss six to eight weeks with a high-ankle sprain.

The team announced Monday that Lewis suffered the injury in Sunday’s 41-10 loss to the Washington Redskins.

Lewis scored a 63-yard touchdown in the game. He has eight receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown over two weeks.

The Jaguars have eight weeks until their Week 11 bye. If Lewis does not return for Week 10 against the Dallas Cowboys, the earliest he can be back will at Indianapolis on Nov. 23.

Hurricanes QB Olsen suspended

University of Miami quarterback Kevin Olsen was suspended indefinitely after being charged with driving under the influence and possessing a stolen/fictitious driver’s license, a felony.

The redshirt freshman was arrested early Monday morning and booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County at 4:11 a.m., per The Miami Herald. Bail was set for $6,000.

Olsen, the younger brother of Carolina Panthers tight end and former Hurricanes star Greg Olsen, was suspended for the team’s 2013 bowl game and the first two games of this season for a violation of team rules — reported to be for a failed drug test. That prevented him for competing for the starting job after Ryan Williams suffered a knee injury during the spring, and Kevin Olsen was fourth on the quarterback depth chart last week.

Saints’ Ingram to miss a month

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram is expected to miss about a month due to a hand injury he suffered in Week 2, ESPN reported Monday.

Ingram, averaging 6.0 yards per carry with three rushing touchdowns through two games, was off to the best start yet in his four-year career.

He ran the ball 11 times for 83 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 21 yards in the Saints’ 26-24 loss to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Reds’ Votto closer to return

MILWAUKEE — Out since early July with a distal strain of his left quadriceps, Joey Votto joined the Reds for their three-city trip that began in Milwaukee, and he is working out with the team.

“It’s day to day, station to station,” Reds manager Bryan Price said. “Everything he’s been doing has been increased effort from when he takes ground balls, moving laterally side to side, the running — it’s just a progression.”

Even hitting flipped balls in an indoor batting cage is a big step for Votto, who landed on the disabled list twice this season with the same injury and is still hoping to return before the regular season ends in two weeks.

Votto signed a $12 year, $251.5 million contract in April 2012 and hit .312 with 38 home runs and 129 RBIs in a combined 273 games in 2012 and 2013.
