BALTIMORE — Adam Jones hit a pair of two-run homers, and Chris Tillman won his sixth consecutive game as the Baltimore Orioles scored a 7-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday night.
Jones, the center fielder, hit a two-run homer in the third that tied the game and did the same thing two innings later to give the Orioles (93-61) a four-run lead. He finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and has 27 homers and 91 RBIs this season.
First baseman Christian Walker hit his first major-league homer for Baltimore, a solo shot in the fourth, as the Orioles hit three homers overall.
They’re now 25-0 in games where they belt at least three home runs.
Tillman recovered from a shaky start to give the Orioles seven solid innings. The right-hander allowed designated hitter David Ortiz’s two-run homer and three hits overall in the first inning. After that, Tillman gave up only two more hits in the final six innings and retired the final 10 batters as the bats from Boston (67-88) remained quiet.
The right-hander improved to 13-5 overall. He’s now allowed three earned runs or less in 20 consecutive starts, third best in the major leagues this season.
Boston starter Rubby De La Rosa (4-8) gave up four runs on six hits — including two homers — in four innings. He’s now lost four straight decisions.
Ortiz struck in the first inning to give Boston a 2-0 lead. He hit a two-run homer off Tillman with one out, the designated hitter’s third homer in two nights.
That homer gave him 466 for his career and moved him past Dave Winfield for 33rd on the all-time home run list.
The Orioles wasted a one-out bases loaded chance in the second before tying it in the third when Jones hit a two-run homer. That was Baltimore’s 200th home run this year. The Orioles led Colorado by 23 homers for first place in the majors entering this game.
Baltimore added two more runs in the fourth. Walker started the inning with a tie-breaking homer, and second baseman Jonathan Schoop laid down a perfect squeeze bunt to bring in another run for a 4-2 lead.
Jones struck again in the fifth against right-hander Heath Hembree. The center fielder belted another two-run shot to left that gave Baltimore a 6-2 lead.
NOTES: DH David Ortiz’s two homers against the Orioles in Friday’s win gave him 39 with Boston vs. Baltimore — the most of any Red Sox player. Jim Rice is second with 38. … CF Rusney Castillo’s outfield assist Friday was the team’s 36th this season, the most in the American League and second most in baseball.
