BANGOR, Maine — Vitamin Shoppe, which sells nutritional supplements, is moving in next to the new Chipotle Mexican Grill being built on Stillwater Avenue near Bangor Mall Cinemas 10.

The Vitamin Shoppe website states the Stillwater Avenue location will open on Nov. 22. Chipotle is planning to open in early 2015.

Tanya Emery, Bangor’s director of community and economic development, said Friday she knew the New Jersey-based retailer was interested in the 6,000-square foot retail space and learned on Thursday that it moved forward with its plans.

“We’re excited that the spaces that are being built by the Bangor Mall continue to be leased,” Emery said. “It further confirms the vitality of the Bangor Mall area.”

The Vitamin Shoppe sells vitamins, supplements, herbs and homeopathic goods. It also has a section for children and pets. The Bangor location will be the second in the state for Vitamin Shoppe, which also has a shop in South Portland near the Maine Mall.

Carol Epstein, a partner in ERG Realty LLC, which owns the property that includes the theater and its surrounding land, said in May that Chipotle would be moving into a 2,200-square-foot building at 569 Stillwater Ave. and that a second building would be built.

“It will be the space out closest to the street,” Epstein said Friday morning of the Vitamin Shoppe. “They’re a great retailer, and we’re delighted to have them. We’re turning it over to them in another week.

“I know they’ll be hiring some people, and within a month, they’ll be opening,” she said.

Chipotle was founded in 1993 by Steve Ellis, who is the corporation’s chairman and chief executive officer. It specializes in burritos, tacos, burrito bowls and salads made from fresh, high-quality raw ingredients, according to the company’s website.
