BANGOR, Maine — Afternoon rush hour on Interstate 95 on Monday was snarled by a rollover of a dump truck just north of the Broadway exit, state police said.

Merle Vicnaire, 73, of Etna was traveling north at 3 p.m. when a tire blew on his truck, according to Maine State Police Lt. Sean Hashey.

Vicnaire subsequently lost control of his truck, which crossed the passing lane, went through a guardrail and rolled over, Hashey said.

Vicnaire wasn’t seriously injured, and no other vehicles were hit, the lieutenant said. Some of the load of gravel that Vicnaire was hauling was dumped onto the northbound lanes.

The accident created a snarl in afternoon rush hour in the area, and Hashey said the interstate was backed up for about an hour and 15 minutes.

Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputies, the Maine Warden Service and the Bangor Fire Department assisted state police in the area, according to Hashey. No charges are expected to be filed.

The truck, owned by H.E. Cliff and Sons out of Hermon, was removed from the median on Monday night.
