HERMON, Maine — A quick firefighter response enabled crews to extinguish a blaze at a Swan Road home early Friday morning.
The fire sent crews from seven agencies to a two-story residence at the corner of Swan Road and Route 2 shortly before 6 a.m., Hermon Fire Captain Chandler Corriveau said at the scene.
“I arrived on scene within five minutes of the call,” Corriveau said. “We had a basement fire. Fire was coming out of the basement window.”
The two residents of the home and their two dogs were able to get out quickly, Corriveau said. A door that led from the first floor to the basement was closed, which likely prevented the blaze from spreading.
“The fire was all contained to the basement,” Corriveau said.
Corriveau said despite the fact that Hermon is only a full-time fire department during the day, “we have live-in students that live at the fire station so we were able to get a truck on the road right away.”
The fire was under control in about 10 minutes and Corriveau said damage was minimal.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office will work to determine a cause although Corriveau does not believe the fire appears suspicious.
In addition to Hermon, departments from Levant, Carmel, Bangor, Hampden, Glenburn and the Air Guard responded.
