ORONO — Registration is underway for the University of Maine Junior Winter Clinic, which will be held 4:30-6:30 p.m. on 12 consecutive Saturdays; and its Senior Winter Clinic, which will be held 6:30-8:30 p.m. on 12 consecutive Saturdays. Cost is $250 for instruction with UMaine players and coaches.The goal of this clinic is to give each player a high level of individual instruction within a group setting. BANGOR — Husson University will hold 15, one-day basketball clinics throughout the school year for boys and girls in grades 3-8. The clinics will focus on skill development such as ballhandling, footwork, shooting, passing, along with other basic skills and concepts. BANGOR — The Bangor Parks and Recreation Department is offering eight weeks of Youth Basketball for children in grades 2-3 and 4-5 with separate boys and girls leagues. ROCKLAND — Go! Malawi’s last race of the 2014 race series is the Scare ME 5K at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Trackside Station, 4 Union St., to raise funds for their education programs, which support orphans and other vulnerable children from Malawi. INDIAN ISLAND — Ralph K. Thomas 8K run/ 2.5 mile walk/ 1 mile fun run 9-11:30 a.m. Nov. 2, Penobscot Nation Community Building, 12 Wabanaki Way. This is a gorgeous race route composed of road and trail running along the Penobscot River and into Old Town.There will be a one-mile free fun run for kids prior to the race. Children’s activities for ages 7 and older will take place during the race, so parents can have a stress-free run. Hats will be available to the first 75 registrants. Native made traditional baskets will be awarded to the first male and female winners. This race raises money for diabetes prevention and awareness.

CAPE ELIZABETH — Cape Elizabeth High School Alpine Ski Team ski swap 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Cape Elizabeth Middle School Cafetorium. Buy new or used ski gear. TRACK & FIELD

The Maine Association of USA Track and Field is holding cross-country races on the following Sundays at these locations: Oct. 26, at Smiling Hill Farm, County Road, Westbrook; Nov. 2, at Smiling Hill Farm, County Road, Westbrook; also on Nov. 2, at Saxl Park, Mount Hope Avenue, Bangor; and Sunday, Nov. 9, at Cony High School, Augusta. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. with course walks at 1 p.m. The first race will be at 2 pm. Races are organized by age groups of 8 and under; 9-10; 11-12, 13-14; 15-16; 17-18 with distances beginning at 2K for the 8 and under ages; 3K for 9-12 year olds; 4 K for 13-14 year olds; and 5K for 15-18 year olds.
