PORTLAND, Maine — A Massachusetts man will spend 1½ years behind bars after he was sentenced Thursday on charges of failing to pay child support and marijuana distribution.
Jay Dandreo, 53, sentenced to 18 months in prison and five years of supervised release in U.S. District Court, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Dandreo was convicted on July 29.
According to court documents, Dandreo was ordered by the Department of Health and Human Services to pay child support of his four children in May 2004. He failed to make any payments between then and 2013, resulting in over $70,000 of unpaid obligations.
In August 2012, a Limerick property owned by Dandreo’s father was searched by drug agents, and 183 marijuana plants were seized, along with several firearms and drug distribution paraphernalia.
