PORTLAND, Maine — Undefeated Portland boxer Russell Lamour Jr. added to his championship belt collection by winning the IBA North American middleweight title with an eight-round unanimous decision over Ahshandi Gibbs Saturday night at the Portland Exhibition Building.

The 31-year-old Lamour, a Deering High School graduate known in the ring as “The Haitian Sensation,” improved his professional record to 11-0 with the victory. Lamour had won the New England middleweight crown at the Expo earlier this year.

Gibbs’ record dropped to 10-5-2 after the Florida resident suffered his fifth consecutive loss over the last five years.

Brandon “The Cannon” Berry, a previously undefeated light welterweight prospect from West Forks, suffered his first professional loss on the undercard by fourth-round technical knockout to unbeaten Freddy Sanchez of Worcester, Massachusetts.

Berry reportedly suffered a left arm injury during the first round of the scheduled four-round bout, and Sanchez was able to maintain control.

Sanchez, 3-0 as a pro after a stellar amateur career, scored a fourth-round knockdown of Berry, and the fight soon was stopped at 2:03 of the round.

Berry is 8-1 for his career.

The card marked the 100th boxing show promoted by the Portland Boxing Club and its founder, Bobby Russo, and other pro fighters scoring victories included Portland Boxing Club competitors Jorge Abiague, Jimmy Smith, Casey Kramlich and Jason “The Fighting Fireman” Quirk.
